We were in Wareham to surprise a friend on their birthday. We chose the Bear to stay in because of its perfect location and the wonderful looking rooms and restaurant. We were not disappointed as the room (Aloysius) was fantastic and postitioned at the front of the hotel. There was virtually no noise from the road so we slept very well on the large and comfortable bed. The pillows are the nicest I have experienced in a hotel for many a year. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and professional from reception to the bar to the restaurant, cleaning staff and breakfast team. No car parking at the hotel but the long stay is reasonably priced and was just a short walk away. We ate in the restaurant on the second evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine. The breakfast was also very good. Not greasy or piled high so I felt healthy for once with a full English. There was a very nice little market at the Quay on Saturday morning too. We will be returning in the near future.

We booked The Bear hotel very last minute for a 4 day trip to Wareham. The hotel, rooms and staff are lovely. I would highly recommend this hotel. We stayed in Theodore and the room was very clean and comfortable with a powerful fan for the warm weather. The room over looks the courtyard but we didn’t have any issues with noise as it closes at 10pm, we had breakfast included and it had lots of options and the food was fab. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. We parked in the long stay carpark which is £6 per day and about a 5-10 minute walk away. We are very much looking forward to staying at The Bear again in the future.

When we first arrived at The Bear, I was a bit concerned. I had failed to notice on booking that they did not provide parking and our room (Rupert), overlooked a busy road. Needless to say, everything turned out to be quite wonderful. Street parking was readily available less than a five minute walk from the Hotel and the road quieted down in the evening and through the night, we slept soundly with the window open and enjoyed to view over the lovely rooftops to the Church steeple. Breakfast was lovely and the bar area provided a welcome and reasonably price and well stocked retreat after our daily adventures. Staff were welcoming and very helpful. All in all, a wonderful stay!

Popped in for a coffee and a soft drink… checked the bill and they charge £5.25 for an appetiser soft drink!? That has to be the most expensive soft drink I have ever purchased out!? Bar maid was lovely, but wouldn’t go back if basic drinks are that price!

We go to the black bear every year we are down here for lunch, we bring our dachshunds with us too. They are so friendly and accommodating and my husband commented that I cleared my plate, which I rarely do. I have allergies and they have always accommodated me with a nice choice. This time I even had deep fried gluten free onion rings. Not had those for 25 years. The most charming relaxed venue.

Had a really nice stay here, it's all very nicely decorated and feels cosy and welcoming. The room was really specious. I stayed during very cold weather but the room was toasty. A great place to eat and drink too. The hotel doesn't have its own parking, but the website pointed out a local car park which was very affordable.

We just returned from a lovely two-night break for a birthday treat. The hotel is fab, and we are already plotting when we can return. We stayed in Rupert on the top floor - the room was large and immaculately clean with a very comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Breakfast was delicious, with an attentive but chilled-out service from staff (who were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay). Addressing some of the other reviews that comment on the lack on parking - it really isn’t an issue. A number of public car parks are available very close by, and if you download the JustPark app you can add time onto your car the night before from the comfort of your hotel room / the hotel bar (where I can 100% recommend trying the Paddington cocktail). There is no need to run through the streets in the morning to buy a parking ticket at 8am. If an on-site car park is the most important factor for you, then it’s probably best not to choose a Grade II listed 18th century hotel. In summary, a lovely stay in a great hotel, and I’m thankful to the staff for helping to make such an enjoyable birthday!

I took my partner here for a one night stay as part of his birthday gift. It was so easy to book direct and they offered a 20% discount. Our room, Aloysius (all rooms named after well known bears) was delightful. Spacious, airy, tasteful with a most beautifully fitted bathroom. The roll top bath was a lovely, relaxing experience and the bed was truly comfortable. The cleaning regime by Rosanna was top notch. Our room was spotless. We had dinner in their restaurant which was delicious and the waitresses were efficient and extremely friendly. The following morning we were served a very tasty breakfast by Rosanna who was so helpful and extremely humble - a joy to meet her. Lovely lady! I wish all hotels were as welcoming, tastefully decorated & clean. I can highly recommend this little spot for a Wareham getaway break. It’s right on the river and very picturesque. Thank you to all the staff for their hard work & commitment to good customer care. Hope to see you all again sometime. Breakfast

We recently had a two night stay at The Bear which has been beautifully refurbished and is a great credit to the owner. We stayed in two different rooms Aloysius and Iorek Brynison) both of which were spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. We had a meal in the restaurant both nights we were there and compliments must go to the chef as the food is of a very high standard and locally sourced. All the staff at The Bear were friendly, helpful and welcoming but a special thank you must go to Linda who went above and beyond the call of duty by finding a taxi company to come and pick us up when we were stranded at Wareham station in torrential rain!! We had a fantastic stay at The Bear and look forward to returning.
