West Hartford Inn

Breakfast included at the booking but infirmed at check-in. Maybe due to renovation, very old AC and broken lamp almost made me to run away.

Very disappointing, especially since I advised others to stay here due to the location. On the positive side, it's walking distance to WH Center, Blueback Square and a short drive to the venue we were going to. On the negative side, there is no one at the check in desk, there is a number to call. Sometimes the gentleman comes quickly, sometimes you wait ten minutes for the gentleman who is super nice. The soda machines didn't work, the gentleman treated us each to a can of soda which was very nice. After check-in you have to find the garage entrance, park your car in the dark garage and take stairs to your floor. I would have been scared if I was alone. Fortunately we all had rooms near each other on the same floor as did some others traveling together. I had to slam my door very hard to get it to close and wasn't confident about the lock. The rooms had new bathrooms but the rest of the rooms were very dark, dank, dated and one lacked a TV remote. Perhaps redoing the bathrooms is phase one of remodeling the place. I would ask before booking. It's really a motel, not an Inn. The town and area are beautiful - lots to do and see - so if you view motels as just a place to sleep and shower this might be for you.

Omg. Where do I start? Smelly place. My "no smoking" room smells like smoke, as do the elevators. Desk staff ( when present) in no hurry to help and slightly rude. Bathroom had STRONG scent of cleaner, TV didn't work, there was no internet despite the hotel giving you their wifi password, bed felt old and not too comfortable. There was a strange hair in the shower. When I came back from a full day, the room was not made up. Yes I was sure to hang the "please make up the room" sign on the door handle. Only reason to stay here is because the other hotel in West Hartford costs a small fortune. I guess you get what you pay for.

I was expecting this hotel to be depressing and run down, which it definitely was. What I was not expecting was extremely rude, borderline hostile hotel staff. They were unfriendly and unhelpful and unprofessional at check in last night. Then, this morning, I left my phone charger by the bed at check out - I phoned them about an hour later when I realized, only to be told (again, with extremely aggressive rudeness) that it was not there - even though it absolutely was. In short: don't stay here if you like things to be clean, people to be pleasant, and your stuff to be not stolen. Also (as of October 2022), the front of the hotel was being DEMOLISHED. And the wifi didn't work.

Our room had a toilet that leaked part of what you flushed onto the floor from under the toilet when you flushed it, had a supposedly clean washcloth with big stains, and had a Thumbelina size toilet with the toilet paper immediately behind you when you sit. But they were not the scary part. There is nobody at the front desk area most of the time (see sign in picture). As the front door is open, and the elevator is immediately behind the front desk, it means anyone from the outside can go anywhere in the hotel pretty much whenever they want. There is no way to see the hallway from your room, other than opening the door, so you have no way of knowing who might be knocking on your door. Or for what purpose. The beds were surprisingly comfortable for such a motel class joint. And the Inn is within 5-6 blocks of the upscale "Restaurant Row." That part of the neighborhood is nice, but the West Hartford Inn is not there.
