With the exception of the check in process that was swift and check in agent was proactive , other services were a disappointment , room towels were not replaced properly and when I requested for an ice bucket for a nose bleed, I had to go to the lobby myself as the receptionist told me over the phone that I have to head to the lobby myself as the counter would be unmanned despite knowing of my nosebleed. Quite a disappointment for a brand such as Hilton

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were drawn in by reputation and quality of the other principal hotels across the country. I was shocked to read so many bad reviews and almost booked somewhere else as a result. It seems most of the intolerant previous residents had issues with noise, smells. food, rooms, service. We didn’t experience any of that and can only conclude that most of the reviews are either planted as false information by competitors or result of warm summer, outdoor bar or questionable views / aspect of room. We stayed in a king on 3rd floor, room 300. If you’re worried about anything just book that one! Tasteful clean decor and great views to the minster. Notable comments for James who went above and beyond to sort out a small issue with audio description hardcoded into the TV, sorted smoothly and efficiently. Great location, atmosphere and setting. We will be back with our dog next time. Don’t believe everything you read from dissolutioned guests who want a megaphone to comment on perceived issues.

This is a lovely place to stay and highly recommended it. The apartment was large and spacious with good cooking facilities and a lovely dining area. The bathroom is large and modern, and the water pressure for the shower is fantastic. Plenty of towels are available. The bedrooms are large with a good amount of wardrobe and drawer space. There are plenty of mirrors in the apartment which, when there are a few of you getting ready, is definitely a plus! The pub itself is lovely and traditional. There are some lovely original features which Dan told us about which were really interesting. He has very extensive knowledge of the building and its history and is really worth having a listen to him. The location is excellent. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the city centre and just a 2 minute walk from the river. There is parking available on site for no extra cost which is extremely handy for a City like York. Breakfast is available for an extra cost and it is excellent. Evening meals are also available (most evenings) and I highly recommend that you eat here at least one night because the food is excellent. It is well cooked, well presented and the choice is fantastic. There is plenty of food served for both breakfast and evening meals and are all available at a reasonable price. My compliments to the chefs. Finally, all other staff at the pub were very attentive and very friendly. All in all, great location, great value, great amenities, great food, great host and great staff. Absolutely recommend for your stay in York

A fantastic hotel. Check in was easy with friendly staff. Our room was very clean, modern and comfortable. Rooms come with and iron and ironing board and a hairdryer. Plus in the bathroom there’s toiletries. This was an ideal location it was close to everything. Within 5 minutes or less we were at the shambles. The shambles car park is a short walk away and you get 20% discount if staying at the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious with a wide variety of choice, there’s even a waffle maker with a good choice of toppings. We opted to go for breakfast around 7 am as we are early birds plus we like to beat the queues/ rush. We did see how busy it can get later on so I would recommend earlier the better. We will definitely be staying here again hopefully can get an adjoining room as our kids will be coming with us.

Wonderful hotel! The room was excellent from the comfortable bed to the luxury touches such as the record player, the spa-like lotions and the quality coffee. The food and drinks at the Pearly Cow and bar were flawless with a cosy and warm atmosphere. Our couple’s spa experience was truly relaxing with attentive staff. The staff in general were very friendly and helpful! The location is only a short walk to the city ramparts and heart of the town - even the walk there takes you past some historic buildings! 10/10, highly recommend.

I visit York regularly and mostly stay in hotels. I decided to do something different this time and stay here. Checkin is through the pub downstairs. The two younger members of staff had no idea what to do when I arrived but the third member of staff took the lead to check me in and bring me to my room. Initial impression of the room was that it was nicely presented, clean and modern. However, I was simply shocked to find that my bathroom had no shower in it. I went back to reception and asked to be assigned a room with a shower but was told no other room was available. So, for the first time in many years, I stayed in a location that didn’t even have the most basic of facilities. If I knew this before I booked here, I certainly wouldn’t have made the booking. In the morning, I asked to have breakfast. It was cooked to order and was delicious. The lady who served me was very efficient and friendly. There’s no air conditioning in the room so I had to have a fan running all night to try to stay cool. So, would I stay here again? Probably not, I’m afraid. The lack of basic facilities is a complete show stopper for me.

Myself, my son (11 years) and our puppy Hugo and my parents had the privilege of staying in this hotel for 2 nights whilst we had a 2 day city break in York. The staff are extremely welcoming, so friendly, happy to help and fun. The reception area is awesome with so many games and books to read we never had a dull moment. The staff were so good with Hugo, which was a bonus that we could bring our puppy and feel so welcome we would love to come back and stay. The beds are so comfy, massive flat screen tv in rooms, lovely showers and really cool deign in rooms we loved it. The staff really went out of there way too help in anyway they would and gave us a really friendly Advice in where to go too to eat and see th sights of York. Our room was cleaned beautifully and we enjoyed sitting out in the courtyard for our complimentary drinks on our last night. Wonderful ! What more can you ask for :) thanks everyone you made it very special for us all :)

Great location in the Moto services on a roundabout that leads to York, Wetherby and the A1M. Really convenient for going out. Loads of parking, although would be better if there was a dedicated area for hotel guests as the bit nearest the hotel seems to be where everyone wants to park, particularly vans. Basic budget hotel with tea and coffee facilities in the room, a TV and a shower room. Would have said it was clean until I found a babies dummy under the bed on the last morning of our 3-night stay. Odd numbered rooms face the car park. On the ground floor rooms from 021 to 037 overlook the grass between hotel and car park where people stand to smoke and everyone takes their dog to do its business. Got a bit annoying when people stood almost against our window even when it was open. Closed window pretty good at keeping out the noise day and night. Additional door in the corridor just before room 021 also cut down on the early morning shouting of people leaving their rooms. Room surprisingly quiet. Did have one issue but it was sorted out pretty swiftly by management with no argument, so can't fault them on service. Breakfast is available for £7 but not much variety. Some cereals, yogurt, fruit, cheese and bread/cakes. Greggs next door much cheaper.

What a GREAT FIND this place is... We were in the area for Thirsk Races with Friends & decided on an overnight stay.. So glad we found the George. It's a great pub/hotel in the lovely Market Town of Easingwold.. From my first contact of a telephone booking to checking out, we had a fabulous experience. It is a 'proper quirky old place', we all Loved it.. The Hotel/rooms look to have been refurbished to a high standard recently & both of our rooms were of a good size. Not a straight line or level floor, which just added to our stay. Slept like a baby in a good comfy bed. Luckily I had booked a table for dinner as it is a busy place, but in a nice friendly way. The food was exceptional served by a very friendly team, with a special mention to Ollie who told us he was on his first shift, hope we haven't put him off working in hospitality LOL! Breakfast, cooked to order, served hot & as with dinner, faultless. Top Marks to ALL of 'TEAM GEORGE'.... I've already recommended a stay here to friends & pretty sure we'll be returning at some point in the future.

GGuest UserWhen we arrived there was no staff anywhere to be seen until someone from restaurant came and got someone, however when she did arrive she was very nice and helpful. I asked to be in a refurbished room and wasn’t, shower was broke and hanging off the hinges and squirts all over. The car parking is not good as there is only 6 spaces and it’s £10 per night. Food was nice however wasn’t fully well done like I asked but was still nice. Lovely man in restaurant and guy behind reception on nights took pictures for us and brought my bfs surprise bday cake out. Lovely night staff got us water after we arrived back after night out. Would like to thank the housekeeping staff for making the room lovely with all of the decorations I brought to decorate it with for my bfs bday.

ZZZ9900The Grand Hotel boasts an excellent location, making it a convenient choice for exploring the city. The facilities are top-notch, offering a blend of luxury and comfort that one would expect from a prestigious establishment. However, the service fell short of expectations, especially considering its five-star rating. While it may be due to the busy tourist season, the level of service provided was inconsistent. In particular, the doormen and porters left a lot to be desired, with some interactions being notably poor. This detracted significantly from the overall experience, as such issues are not expected at a hotel of this caliber. Overall, while the hotel's amenities and location are commendable, the service quality needs improvement to truly match the standards of a five-star hotel.

GGuest UserVery quirky hotel. Booked a normal cosy room but was upgraded because we were gold members, to 2 room family room. I am 6 foot 1 and it was difficult because I was constantly wary of my overhead space. It was a cool concept though and the floor space was good. It was the quirkiest Hilton I've stayed in. The bar area was pleasant but it was crowded due to some unforeseen circumstances for the hotel- many coaches arrived with many American tourists. We felt a bit 'ignored' because of the number of people. This also led us to not have a seat at the restaurant for dinner. Had a few draught beers out of stock at the bar but it was ok. Breaktfast was very good, usual Hilton standard. No complaints there. The parking was very very tight, I appreciate that it is pretty much in the city centre. I can say this hilton is better than the Hilton York one next to Cliffords tower by miles.

GGuest UserLovely hotel . Cannot really say anything negative about about it . I ve stayed in many many hotels over the years with work so I am very welltravelled . The staff are very helpful and friendly . Location is great . Very nice buffet and a La carte breakfast . We had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon this morning and it was cooked to perfection . Parking is £15 a night . I was a little worried about finding a car parking space due to some of the reviews I had read . The area is very small so I am not sure how it will work if the hotel is very busy albeit we did not have a problem. Check in was very smooth and quick without any issues . I will definitely return and would recommend . We stayed for 2 nights .

GGuest UserWas worried reading reviews but we had the best get away here for our wedding anniversary. Our room was overlooking the small courtyard and was very clean. Could not fault our room. We arrived early so had a drink at the bar, check in was quick and easy and the lady on reception was very pleasant and polite. Nice touch of chocolates in our room for our anniversary. Only a 10 minute walk into the main centre which has plenty to do and see. Before we left Sunday we wanted to explore and was advised we could stay in the car park as long as needed. Was very quiet in our room and had a decent night sleep. We will definitely return, we had the most perfect weekend.

AAnonymous UserThe location of the hotel is pretty good. The castle is just outside the door. It takes more than 10 minutes to walk to the train station and more than 400 meters to the Shambles Street. The room is not big and the sound insulation is average. The bathroom water will be all over the floor. The faucet of the basin takes a long time. Hot water comes out.

GGuest UserI will start with the parking, I paid for secure parking however due to the hotel having noise issue the security gate to the carpark (The noise caused complaints) and second issue of refurbishment being ongoing, the gate was up to allow the building teams to park in the entrance way. This made it difficult to get out of the carpark due to there vans. When I questioned staff they were very dismissive of the issue and said they had CCTV on so it would be fine. The hotel itself is being partial refurbished and that is to revamp the very dated rooms, we were aware of this beforehand, however we were not prepared for 7am drilling and banging from the building works. In addition to this the corridors were often filled with building equipment and furniture which was ongoing throughout the stay. The room, while well proportioned, was very dated. This could have been forgiven if it wasn't for the fact the room was not clean. There were a number of stains on the carpet, the bathroom sink was stinking when used. The bath mat was moldy and the shower itself was a trickle of water, making it difficult to wash quickly. The curtains were very grubby and the room smelled very stale, the bed was adequate but we couldn't be 100% that the sheets had been properly cleaned as there was an odd smell to the bedding. The TV was of decent size but kept cutting in and out of signal when in use, which was annoying when we decided to have an early evening chilling in the room we had paid for, the WiFi was useless, if planning to work while staying here you will need to hotspot your phone. The breakfast food was OK, however the description of a wide choice of cooked food and continental breakfast dishes was over exaggerated, there was no fruit on two days and bananas on the last morning, one choice of yogurt and 3 small cereal options. The cooked food was standard: Bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms and bean's. Toast was something that had to be requested and was more like warm bread. On the first morning my partner was served a cup with the remainder of someone's lipstick stains on the rim. On closer inspection of the glasses there were a number which were not clean. On the second night we went to the bar area to grab a couple of drinks. The bar was full of empty unwashed glasses and when we got our drinks our glasses where sticky. There was a smell of stale ale which was not appealing in the slightest. On checking out raised a couple of things with the receptionist and was meet with at best distinct lack of interest and worst just plan rudeness. Sadly this hotel did not meet the standards it professed to uphold. I would say the location and river view was pretty and the fact the parking was at the hotel itself made it one of the reasons I booked it. However after this visit I will not be visiting again as there are better hotels in York and carparks that are not much more expensive than the supposed secure parking.

The room is small, especially the bathroom, very old feeling, outdated facilities, poor drainage. There is a distance to the Old Town of York. We are self-supporting. We found a parking lot near the city wall. It costs 6.4 pounds for 2 hours. It seems to be. I went to the Betty Tea Room and waited for a while. Tea is good, dessert is average.

Ddashv1llWe had a lovely stay at Diamonds Inn. We booked the Standard Suite, Ensuite 3-bed room which is located at the top floor of the building. A very quaint compact en-suite family room great for a group of friends or family. All basic amenities are there including towels, shampoo and shower gels. There’s also an electric water kettle, coffee/tea, hair dryer and a small fridge! Beds are soft and comfy. Walls are thin and may hear voices of other guests in the halls during the day but was not a major issue during our stay, mostly quiet after 10pm. Location is very convenient as its only a stones throw away from one of the famous wall entrances, a pub and restaurant across and York Minster. Host was lovely and friendly as well, called to ask if we can get an early check-in and was happy to accommodate us.

GGuest UserAt arrival we managed to get the key before the actual check in time. I called the number and the housekeeper very kindly gave me the key card and showed me how to open doors for later on. We were so lucky to have a family room even if it was just the two of us. We stayed in room 3 at ground floor. There was plenty of space and lots of tea and coffee and a small fridge as well. The bathroom is awesome, brand new with a huge shower and very clean. Only thing is the radiators in the room do not work so there is a heater. The room was quite warm but maybe it would be better to have a different heating system for winter. We like staying in Fulford because it's much quieter than the city centre. The bus stop is very close and busses run every 15 minutes. Perfect for us!
