#perthonbudget Gelato Messina Highgate, it’s about celebrating flavors, craftsmanship, and joy in a cone (or cup). Whether you’re chasing the familiar comfort of chocolate or adventurous combos like “peanut butter with pretzel crunch,” this stop is a must on any Perth food trail. Address: 497 Beaufort St, Highgate WA 6003, Australia When it comes to gelato, few names spark as much excitement as Gelato Messina. From humble beginnings in Sydney, this iconic brand has become a dessert pilgrimage site across Australia—and now Perth’s Highgate enjoys its own scoop of the action. Here’s a point-by-point guide to making the most of your gelato adventure at Messina. 1. The Legacy of Gelato Messina · Founded in 2002, Messina built its fame on quality, creativity, and bold flavors. · Every store feels like an ice-cream theatre, blending classic Italian technique with playful twists. · The Perth outpost keeps this DNA alive, drawing crowds from late afternoon into the night. 2. The Menu — Beyond Vanilla · Expect around 40 gelato flavors daily, a rotation that mixes classics with inventive specials. · Signatures include: · Salted Caramel & White Chocolate (their rockstar flavor). · Pandan & Coconut nodding to Southeast Asian tastes. · Super Dulce de Leche, made with Messina’s own house-cooked caramel. · Weekly specials push creativity—anything from baklava-inspired layers to “tiramisú with a twist.” · Vegan and dairy-free sorbets are also part of the lineup, bursting with fruit intensity. 3. The Experience — Designed for Indulgence · The Highgate store has Messina’s trademark vibe: bright counters, cheeky flavor names, and staff who encourage you to taste before you choose. · Portions are generous, making it easy to share—or hoard, depending on your sweet tooth mood. · Expect a bit of a queue on weekends or evenings, but service is fast and the energy keeps it fun. 4. The Quality — Farm-to-Scoop · Messina doesn’t just scoop gelato; they control the process from start to finish. · They run their own dairy farm in Numurkah, Victoria, ensuring creamy milk as the base. · Nuts, chocolate, and even dulce de leche are made in-house, so every bite feels richer and fresher than supermarket fare. 5. Practical Things to Know · Opening hours: Typically from 12 PM to 11 PM, making it perfect for afternoon pick-me-ups or late-night dessert runs. · Location perks: Highgate’s Beaufort Street is a hub of restaurants and bars—stop by Messina before or after dinner. · Price point: Around $6–$8 a scoop, with tubs available if you want to take some home. · Crowds: Popular among families, date nights, and post-dinner wanderers—expect lines, but short waits.

#perthonbudget Smoked at The Beaufort, it’s a weekly festival of fire, flavor, and music. Whether you’re a foodie chasing authentic smoked meats or a social butterfly looking for Sunday fun, this event hits the sweet spot between feast and fiesta. Location: 521–525 Beaufort St, Highgate WA 6003, Australia Tucked inside the iconic The Beaufort, Smoked isn’t just about filling plates—it’s about filling afternoons with flavor, music, and good company. This weekly BBQ event transforms Perth Sundays into a Texan-meets-Highgate celebration. Here’s what you need to know before making it your next weekend plan: 1. The Concept — American BBQ Meets Perth Energy Smoked is The Beaufort’s Sunday ritual. Think slow-smoked meats, smoky aromas drifting through the air, paired with a DJ-driven party. The idea is to blend a southern-style barbecue with the lively social vibe Perth locals love. Expect communal tables, finger-licking platters, and energy that grows with the afternoon. 2. The Menu — Fire, Smoke, and Flavor The food is the star, and it’s unapologetically bold: · Beef Brisket: Tender, smoky, melt-in-your-mouth slices. · Chicken Wings: Charred, juicy, with just the right amount of heat. · Loaded Sides: Expect cornbread, slaws, pickles, and mac ‘n’ cheese style accompaniments that balance the richness. · Signature Sauces: House-made sauces range from sweet-smoky to spicy tang, designed to drench your meats. 3. The Drinks — Margaritas & More What’s barbecue without the right drink? · $10 Spicy Margaritas are the highlight, perfectly cutting through the heaviness of the BBQ. · An extensive list of beers, wines, and cocktails is available if you want to keep it casual or go all out. 4. The Atmosphere — More Than a Meal · Live DJs set the tempo, turning the courtyard and atrium into a dance-ready space. · Casual yet buzzing—the crowd is a mix of friends, couples, and groups celebrating the end of the week. · Expect to stay longer than planned; people often come for the BBQ but end up staying for the music and party vibe. 5. Practical Must-Knows · Day & Time: Smoked happens on Sundays from afternoon till late, perfect for weekend wind-downs. · Budget: Around $30–$50 per person for food, depending on how hungry you are. Add drinks, and it becomes a full afternoon out. · Best For: Groups of friends, casual celebrations, or anyone who loves BBQ paired with a festive atmosphere. · Tip: Come early for the food—popular items sell out fast once the crowd builds.
