Hotel Alkhalifa in Shefshawan is a small building facing the main street, close to the entrance of the old city. There are 10 rooms in total, three floors, clean and tidy. The front desk manager is named Ultraman, easy to remember and speaks English. The guest room is not small, with two single beds put together, clean bedding and comfortable mattresses. The bathroom is spacious, with a red door that contrasts with the blue walls, which is surprising. There is a very small window above for light and ventilation, and outside the wall is a mountain view, facing a small tower on the mountain, which is very interesting. The extra-large floor-to-ceiling windows in the room are clean and face the mountain city, with a view of the sunset and blue residential buildings. The deep voice of Muslim chanting echoes over the small town. The room has air conditioning and TV programs including BBC. Due to the surrounding mountains, the room has poor network signal, and the front desk suggests that we use the network on the first floor. There are sofas in the lobby, tables in the dining room, and chairs in the courtyard. The restaurant is on the first floor, and you can also dine in the courtyard. There are coffee, Moroccan mint tea, several types of bread and pastries, eggs, pickled olives, yogurt, cheese, etc. The hotel is in a great location, a 20-minute walk to the Old Town Square. Along the way, there are blue houses everywhere, giving a glimpse into the local people's lives. There are also many stalls selling handicrafts and souvenirs. The square has many restaurants, and we had mint tea, salad, and pasta there. Shafshawan is not accessible by train, perhaps this is also the reason why the original flavor of Morocco has been relatively preserved. To leave Shafshawan, you can take a bus or charter a car, and bus tickets should be purchased in advance. This hotel has parking in the courtyard, which is convenient for self-driving tourists.
