Mountain City Walk | Former Residence of Guo Moruo

The Former Residence of Guo Moruo (No. 8 Tiangong Mansion) I visited the former residence of Guo Moruo in the university town before, and found out that there is also one in Yuzhong district. It's near Qixinggang. Following the gentle slope of Funiu Alley in Yuzhong district, up the hill, in an inconspicuous alley, there is a red gate with concrete decorations and a brick structure. If it weren't for the sign on the wall indicating it's Guo Moruo's former residence, you might think you've wandered into a residential area. Stepping through the red gate, the view opens up. Under a huge yellow catalpa tree, two three-story buildings with red pillars and white walls with gray roofs stand quietly. They are the former residence of Guo Moruo. The area is surrounded by residential buildings, so it feels quite crowded here. Standing in front of the main building on the west side, you can clearly see that it is a brick and wood structure with a hip-and-gable roof and small green tiles; the annex building, parallel and adjacent to the main building, is identical to it, also a three-story Sino-Western brick and wood structure. These two Sino-Western buildings were built in the 1930s, originally named 'Tianlu', and were the private residence of Pan Wenhua's brother-in-law, the first mayor of Chongqing. Later, during the war, it was lent to the government for office use. At that time, Guo Moruo was the person in charge of the institution that moved in, and from 1938 he worked and lived here until May 1946 when he left Chongqing for Shanghai, staying for 8 years. The exhibition hall is small, the second floor is not open, and the first floor displays his deeds through photos and videos. It's quite simple here, not as rich in content as the one in the university town. There is a small teahouse inside, which was not open today. Overall, there is not much to see, and it is not recommended to come here alone. If you are passing by Shan Cheng Lane, you can take a look. Transportation: Get off at Qixinggang Station or Jiaochangkou Station of the subway, then walk for 10 minutes, or get off at Zhongxing Road Station of the bus, then walk for another 10 minutes Admission: Free Opening hours: 9 am to 5 pm (closed on Mondays) Visiting time: 10~30 minutes Nearby: Shan Cheng Lane, General Bamanzi Memorial Hall, the former site of Xinhua Daily Business Department, Dajing Lane, Jiefangbei business district
