Wake up, Appreciate, Surf...repeat

.... as a youngster I desired to surf. I didnt have mentors or people that looked like me to teach me- all i knew was i loved the water and i wanted to learn to surf- friends told me that “people that look like me don’t surf”. Growing tired of explaining my desires and continuing to be laughed at- I pushed that desire to the back and then life happens…… School, family, marriage, raising children, career goals, divorce, struggle,,…… blah blah...Reflection allowed me the grace of understanding that I did and chose what I was taught about being a good human and that should be to chose others happiness and what their ideals of what I should do before my own. Perspective taught me that I didn’t choose myself. So at the age of 52 on the island of Guam I chose myself. I reached out to a local surf shop -found an amazing instructor and started to take surf lessons. Life has the blessing of repeating a lesson until the lesson is learned.
