It is said to have been built by the eighth ancestor of Zen Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, Master Mazu Dao. The main hall was rebuilt during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are 10 murals painted in the second year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty (1466) on the four walls of the hall.
