The Oldest Buddhist Temple in China

#tripblazers #henan #luoyang As part of our history tour of Henan, we visited the oldest recorded Buddhist temple in China. The white horse temple has been at the epicentre of Chinese history since the year 68AD when it was established by Emperor Ming in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Here, Buddhism was first established in the country, with the temple being built to honour the two Indian monks and their white horses that brought the religion to China (hence the name). The gardens and buildings are beautiful, and if you are lucky enough to visit during April, you will see hundreds of blossoming Chinese peonies.
