Rongshui Miao Autonomous County is known as the home of Chinese Lusheng and horse-fighting culture

The Miao people refer to themselves as 'Mu', 'Meng', 'Daji', among others, and have gradually developed from a part of the 'Wuxi Man' during the Qin and Han dynasties. During the Song dynasty, one branch settled in the Yuanbao Mountain area of Rongshui, becoming the earliest ancestors of the Miao people in Guangxi today. The Miao people's distinctive wooden stilted houses, Lusheng dance, batik craftsmanship, and unique Miao folk songs, along with their richly imaginative myths, together form the colorful Miao culture. The Rongshui Miao Slope Festival evolved from a mass gathering for mourning ancestors and inspiring fighting spirit to a traditional festival for disaster prevention, prayer for blessings, and collective entertainment. Slope Festival activities take place from the third to the seventeenth day of the first lunar month. Among them, the Gulong Slope Festival is the largest in scale, with the festival held on the sixteenth day of the first and eighth lunar months each year. The former prays for a good harvest, while the latter celebrates the harvest. During the festival, various activities are held, including Lusheng competitions, horse fighting, horse racing, and playing games with peers.
