Shaoxing Lanting Scenic Area is located at the foot of Lanzhu Mountain, and its name comes from the legend that King Goujian of Yue planted orchids here during the Spring and Autumn period, and a post station was established during the Han Dynasty, hence the name Lanting. It is a 4A-level tourist attraction in China. It is famous both at home and abroad for the calligraphic masterpiece 'Lantingji Xu' and has gained even greater renown due to the continuous hosting of the 'Lanting Calligraphy Festival'! In the ninth year of Yonghe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (353 AD), on the third day of the third month, Wang Xizhi, Xie An, Sun Chuo, and 41 others held a 'purification rite' here, drinking from the winding stream, and each person composed a poem to commemorate the gathering. As a result, Wang Xizhi, Xie An, and 11 others each wrote two poems, and 15 people wrote one poem each. Wang Xizhi then wrote a preface for the collection of poems, which is the famous 'Lantingji Xu'. The 'Lantingji Xu' is not only exquisitely written but also has extremely high artistic value in calligraphy and has always been regarded as a treasure of Chinese calligraphic art. Lanting became famous for this purification rite, the poetry, and the preface, and is revered as a sacred place of Chinese calligraphic art. In spring, the Lanting Scenic Area is lush with greenery and has a beautiful environment, with bamboo forests, grasslands, and wetlands everywhere.
