Bird Island is the only natural ecological bird watching center in Shenyang. Also known as Ganhezi Island, it is located within the Qipanshan Development Zone, on the east side of Dongling Park, and south of the World Expo Garden. It is an island in the Hun River system, covering an area of 49.26 hectares. Historically, Bird Island was named 'Longtan Fishing' because its shape resembles a giant dragon lying in the Hun River, becoming one of the famous 'Eight Sights of Hui Mountain'. During different seasons of the year and at different times of the day on Shenyang Bird Island, the forests, shrubs, wetlands, and ponds on the island will present people with different landscapes: in spring, everything revives and flowers bloom, and the birds on Bird Island begin to nurture life; in summer, the vegetation is lush, ducks and sparrows rest in the shade of trees, and white cranes forage in the reed ponds; in autumn, the forests are dyed with colors, and the newly grown wild geese follow their mothers, waddling on the ground covered with golden leaves; in winter, the snow is white, the earth is solemn, and only the geese and ducks are still playing on the unfrozen surface of the Hun River. The wetland area is about 100,000 square meters, which is the main habitat for wild animals, especially waterfowl, wading birds, shorebirds, and passerine birds. Creating a wetland landscape can not only enrich the habitat types of Bird Island, allowing more birds to settle here, but also enrich the viewing content of the island, making 'Bird Island' worthy of its name.
