Visit the cat temple for good luck

You’ve probably noticed this temple start to pop up all over social media. Gōtoku-ji is a Buddhist temple located in the Gōtokuji district in the suburbs of Tokyo. Although it’s a little out of the way from most of the other tourist attractions in the city, if you’ve got plenty of time in your Tokyo itinerary I would include it, however if you’ve only got a very limited time I would probably skip it due to the extra transit time. It’s known as the lucky cat temple because of all the maneki-neko (those white cat figurines with their paw up, which symbolises good luck). The temple also allows you to purchase your own cat figurine in a variety of sizes, with the smallest ranging from 300yen / $3 to the largest at 5000 yen / $50. You can then make a wish on the cat for good luck and leave it behind at the temple with all the other cat figurines or take it home with you. They do say though if you do take it home with you, once your wish is fulfilled you should return the cat to the temple to give thanks. There’s also an actual cat that lives at the temple so be sure to keep an eye out.#Tokyo
