Sosuseowon Confucian Academy in Winter

#wintertrip King Myeongjong personally calligraphed a new sign for the academy and also changed its name to Seosuseowon which means, "an academy where one is cleaned through perpetuation of scholarship." UNESCO claims sosu means, "to revive and advance the broken pieces of Confucianism." Over 4,000 were taught here until 1888. Seosuseowon was one of only 47 Confucian academies to survive the seowon purge ordered by King Daewongun (Yi Ha-eung) in 1871. For location is 2740 Sobaek-ro, Sunheung-myeon, Yeongju-si (152-8 Naejuk-ri).
