Countryside in the painting--Hongcun Hongcun, formerly known as Hong Village, is located in the northeastern part of Yi County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, and is an ancient town with a history of over 800 years. Nestled against the foothills of Huangshan, such as Yangzhan Ridge and Leigang Mountain, Hongcun is situated at a higher altitude, often enveloped in clouds and mist, presenting a scene like a splash-ink heavy color painting or a light brush freehand drawing, resembling a long scroll of landscape painting, integrating natural and cultural landscapes, and is acclaimed as 'the countryside in Chinese painting'. The village was established during the Song Dynasty, with hundreds of ancient residences featuring white walls and black tiles, closely arranged in an orderly fashion. The meticulously carved and brightly colored Chengzhitang and Jingxiutang halls; the grand and simple Dongxiantang and Sanlitang halls; the solemn Xuren Hall and Shangyuan Hall, as well as the Nanhu Academy; the deep and secluded alley gates, the quaint shops along the bluestone streets, the smooth, mirror-like Yuezhao Pond, and the rippling Nanhu Lake; the towering ancient trees on Leigang, the century-old peonies and the green vines and stone trees peeking over the walls in the courtyards of the residences, all form a perfect artistic whole.
