Kyoanji Temple

#thingstodo Kawasaki Station on the JR Keihin Tohoku Line is the nearest station, and this is a Jodo sect temple located about 400m southwest of Kawasaki Station Exit 36. It was founded in 1553 by Ichirensha Joyo. In the precincts, there is a stone monument with the six-character name (Namu Amida Butsu) written by Tokumoto Shonin. Tokumoto preached that chanting Nembutsu would lead to paradise, and was extremely popular with the people during the Edo period. There is a temple bell that was cast in 1829, and it was sold under the wartime metal collection order, but it was kept at Kawasaki City Hall to be used as a substitute for the air raid warning siren, so it was not crushed.
