Ping Shan Lake: China’s Grand Canyon

Far out in remote Gansu Province is the Ping Shan Lake National Geopark, aka China’s Grand Canyon. If you’ve ever been to the Southwest United States, you’ll know how beautiful this type of landscape can be. Your best bet is to get a hotel in Zhangye, which is about an hour away by car. There are tours that go to the several national parks in the region. Give yourself maybe 3-5 hours to explore Ping Shan Lake so you can take your time. We went in mid-May, which was great because it’s still the low season so there was hardly anyone there and the weather was totally fine. Just needed a light jacket.
