Jiangxi hides a small and niche thousand-year-old ancient town, which not only has the charm of Jiangnan, but also allows free entry.
Jiangxi is a place full of poetic and picturesque scenery. The local tourism resources are very rich, including the famous Lushan Mountain with its unique and beautiful scenery, Wugong Mountain, a holy land for hiking with stunning views of the sea of clouds, Sanqing Mountain, like a Chinese ink painting, and Huangling, the most beautiful village in China. Many scenic spots are worth visiting, and there are also some overlooked niche travel destinations with their own unique charm. Today, let's take a look at a lesser-known thousand-year-old ancient town in Jiangxi, which retains the original Jiangnan style and is free of charge. It is worth a visit.
This ancient town is Yao Li Ancient Town, located in the eastern part of Fuliang County, Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, at the junction of Qimen, Xiuning, Wuyuan, and Fuliang counties. It is 50 kilometers away from the downtown area of Jingdezhen and Fuliang County. It occupies a very advantageous geographical location and has a history of more than two thousand years. It has been a prosperous commercial port since ancient times. Nowadays, the ancient town is rich in Gan-style architecture and tourism resources, and is known as the "origin of porcelain, hometown of tea, and sea of forests".
Yao Li Ancient Town is named after Jingdezhen porcelain kilns and is one of the origins of ceramic handicrafts. It has a history and culture of more than two thousand years. Nowadays, there are many ancient buildings left behind. Walking on the old streets of the ancient town, you can see the traces left by the years. Stepping on the stone road, it feels like traveling back in time. Wearing ancient costumes to take photos is very picturesque. Not only that, it is also a red relic. Comrade Chen Yi lived here and guided the reorganization work of the New Fourth Army, known as the "Yao Li Reorganization". Now an exhibition hall has been established, which is a red education base for accepting the enlightenment of revolutionary ideology and carrying out revolutionary traditional learning.
Yao Li ancient town is full of exotic Jiangnan style, and the scenery here is intoxicating. We can enjoy steep mountains, green streams, and simple villages. During the day, it is like a landscape in a Chinese ink painting, and at night, the lights are brilliant, with the charm of an ancient town. It is super beautiful for taking photos. The Yao River runs through the town, with clear water and no pollution, slowly flowing down. Surrounding it are ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties and distant mountains, forming a beautiful Jiangnan ink painting, which is very shocking and seems like a fairyland on earth.
In the ancient town, there are various delicious foods and authentic Jiangxi specialties. Whether you taste them locally or give them as gifts, they are all unforgettable. In addition, there is no admission fee to visit Yao Li ancient town, and you can enter and play for free. It is a national four-star scenic spot with complete humanistic landscape, natural scenery, and revolutionary sites, and has high historical and cultural value. In Jiangxi, Yao Li ancient town is a niche travel destination, but its beauty and charm are shocking. The scenery, ancient architecture, and food here are all worth exploring and tasting. It is a great place to check in.

Fang Qi really didn't lie to me, Yao Li is indeed stunningly beautiful!
Yao Li, also known as 'Yao Li', is the birthplace of Jingdezhen ceramics, but now it seems that the ancient town of Yao Li has little to do with 'ceramics'. What exists is the 'azure misty rain' described by Fang Wenqing's writings, not an exaggeration at all. Just like in Fang Qi's video, it is truly stunningly beautiful!!!! 😍
A rainy Yao Li is shrouded in mist, and breathing the mountain air in the early morning is like a cleansing for the soul, making you not want to leave. We were pressed for time and left after taking some photos like tourists. If you have more time, you can stay in the ancient town for a few more days. (Food and lodging in the ancient town are very convenient)
📍Location: Yao Li Town, Fuliang County, Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province (50 kilometers from Jingdezhen City)
🚗Transportation:
1⃣️Most tourists take a chartered car tour from the Porcelain Palace to Hanxi Village to Yao Li in a single line (300-350💰, anything beyond this range is a rip-off, run fast), which is a super cost-effective choice for group travel.
2⃣️Taking a taxi from Jingdezhen city area costs 100💰 one way, but it's hard to get a taxi back. You can only take the bus🚌, with two trips a day, at 14:00 and 19:00, which is quite troublesome. Not recommended❌
🎫Ticket: 🆓, the 150💰 pass mentioned online includes the Wanghu area outside of Yao Li Ancient Town, duck not necessary.
🍜Cuisine: Alkaline water rice cake is a local specialty, said to be a method devised by the people of Yao Li during the war years to provide reserves for the army, convenient to carry and not easily spoiled.
📚About sightseeing:
1⃣️The ancient town is paved with bluestone slabs, and every place is very photogenic, so it's nice to just take a leisurely walk, and occasionally you might encounter some artists sketching.
2⃣️📷For photography, it is recommended to use zoom and telephoto lenses, as the distant landscapes and Huizhou-style architecture are interspersed and beautiful.
3⃣️For attire, it is suggested to wear plain-colored dresses or Hanfu cheongsams, and it would be even better if you have a paper umbrella to go with it!

Jingdezhen
Jingdezhen in the off-season is too beautiful‼️ Don't miss these 8 must-visit treasure spots, they are amazing||🪴🪴
After five years, I see Jingdezhen again,
This time I chose to stroll around slowly~
As expected of the Porcelain Capital, the ceramics are so beautiful,
And it also has its own secluded Jiangnan charm!
Four-day three-night travel itinerary⬇️
DAY1: Departure→Ceramics Museum→Imperial Kiln Museum→Eating in Fuzhou Alley
DAY2: Taoxi Stream→Sanbao Village→Taoyang New Village
DAY3: Porcelain Palace→Hanxi Village→Dongbu Village→Yaoli
DAY4: Sculpture Porcelain Factory→Return trip
🕌 The downtown area of Jingdezhen is not big, taking a taxi costs about 10-20 yuan, but the villages in Fuliang are a bit far! We drove from Wuhan, it took 4 hours to get there, it's a long time, so I suggest bringing some snacks to fend off hunger, and replenish anytime you feel peckish or crave something.
🌈 I've organized a few must-visit treasure spots
1️⃣: China Ceramic Museum
The popularity of the 'Speechless Buddha' has led more and more young people to discover Jingdezhen, located on the sixth floor, I suggest visiting from the first floor up~
2️⃣: Imperial Kiln Museum
Old alleys, Dragon Ball Pavilion, step into the life of ancient kilns among the pinnacle of architecture, 📷 absolutely beautiful.
3️⃣: Fuliang Yaoli
Walking here on a misty rainy afternoon, you'll understand how beautiful Jay Chou's lyrics 'The sky is blue, waiting for the mist and rain' can be.
4️⃣: Dongbu Village
'Last month I went to Fuliang to buy tea' is from a poem by Bai Juyi, an ancient town hidden from the world, with bench bridges and bluestone paths, how can it not be considered the true Jiangnan? This undeveloped ancient village is the biggest surprise of the trip to Jingdezhen.
5️⃣: Hanxi Village
The 'Lamp of the Earth' and endless tea gardens spread out like an art painting among the mountains, Jingdezhen's off-season wins at this moment, the feeling of owning a mountain is too relaxing, and the distant mountains after the rain paint the beauty all over again!!
6️⃣: Sanbao Village
Maybe it was the heavy rain, or maybe I didn't approach it the right way, Sanbao doesn't seem that fun... (If you think it's good, please praise it, and we'll visit it again next time👀)
7️⃣: Markets you can't get enough of
🌱 Taoxi Stream: Most original, very expensive, but the ceramics are really beautiful, very artistic! The moonlight lamp is very photogenic, and there will be a market on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.
🌿 Sculpture Porcelain Factory: Lots of small shops, very comprehensive, worth a visit, we went twice. The Lotte Market is also here on Saturday mornings, ending at 12 o'clock.
🍃 Taoyang New Village: The night market ceramics are very affordable, cheap and stylish, there are a lot of ceramics and bracelets, suitable for slowly picking out something you like~
🏔️ They say no one can leave Jingdezhen empty-handed,
🍀 So stay a few more days and stroll around slowly~ It will surprise you.

Yaoli Destination Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The azure color amidst the misty rain described by Fang Wenshan is right here in the kiln
Wondering where to find the 'azure color amidst the misty rain'? Come with me on May Day! Yaoli Ancient Town is the birthplace of blue and white porcelain, where Fang Wenshan's 'azure color amidst the misty rain' can be found. As the cradle of Jingdezhen ceramics, the phrase 'after the rain, the sky clears and the clouds break, such color will be used in the future' endows it with elegance and mystery among all beings. Amidst the surrounding mist, the town is lush and serene, natural and tranquil. The ancient Huizhou-style bridges, flowing water, and households still retain their simple local customs. A meandering and clear Yaoli River runs through the town. Hundreds of Ming and Qing Dynasty Huizhou-style buildings are distributed along the banks of the Yaoli River, nestled against the mountains and water in a well-arranged manner. Strolling through the ancient town's bluestone-paved streets, you can see hundreds of Ming and Qing Dynasty Huizhou-style ancient buildings by the mountains and water everywhere. Time seems to flow in the river, and the old stories seem to be kneaded into the ceramics.
Green mountains and clear waters, household smoke from cooking fires, visitors in twos and threes, all paint a picture of a paradise on earth. Here, your heart will calm; here, your pace will slow; here, your eyes will clear. I think you will fall in love with this place.
Transportation: Yaoli Ancient Town is more than 50 kilometers away from the downtown area of Jingdezhen. Take the high-speed train to Jingdezhen North, and you can reach it by chartered car or rental car in an hour. Travel Tips: The Yaoli scenic area is divided into Yaoli Ancient Town and five smaller scenic spots: Wanghu, Meiling, Raonan, Gaoling, and Dongbu. If you happen to visit during the misty rain season, be sure to get up early the next morning. Amidst the azure color and the misty rain, the clouds and mist linger, the white walls and black tiles of Huizhou-style buildings create a dreamlike fairyland.

Yaoli Ancient Town – I'll Wait for You.
The ancient town is vast, where you can slowly immerse yourself in the cultural heritage that has been precipitated over a thousand years. The commercial atmosphere of the ancient town is not strong, and there are still some shops being developed and renovated, getting ready to operate.
Surrounded by clouds and mist, the town is tranquil, preserving the Qing and Hui architectural styles that nestle against the mountains and waters. It embodies the misty riverside scenery of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, as well as the ink-wash riverside scenery of Huizhou, creating a truly beautiful combination. Time seems to slow down here. All you need to do is quietly experience the azure ink-wash, which is extremely beautiful.

May Day Travel Recommendation: Yaoli Ancient Town
▪️ Yaoli Ancient Town Scenic Area
The ancient streets in China feel quite similar, selling small commodities wholesaled from Yiwu, with slightly higher prices, small bridges, flowing water, and old houses.
However, Yaoli doesn't have a strong commercial vibe.
It still retains its natural and cultural scenery.
🅿️: There is a parking lot, and the parking fee for cars is 5 yuan.
Suitable for visiting on sunny or rainy days, allocate at least 4 hours for photography.
Tip: Follow the river on the right hand side and walk inside. You don't need to buy a ticket at the entrance street of the ticket office. The good photo spots are free, and the fee is for Chen Yi's former residence and three other very small attractions.
Photo Travel Guide:
1. The old streets, old buildings, and stone roads of the ancient town can still make for good photos, and occasionally there are a few old houses with nice structures and well-preserved carvings.
2. The landscape of Yaoli is also a major feature. If you have time, you can go to a nearby viewing platform to overlook the entire ancient town and the surrounding natural scenery.
3. Recently, due to safety issues, the wooden bridge has been dismantled, leaving only a few large bridges.
4. Hello Coffee Shop in Yaoli, recently the roses are in full bloom, and it's a great spot for taking pictures at the entrance.

In Yaoli Ancient Town, you see a sea of green everywhere
After just a 1h drive from Jingdezhen city center, this off-the-beaten-path travel destination is truly beautiful!
Yaoli Ancient Town is really beautiful, especially now with the green mountains, green trees, and green waters, it's worth a visit. Take a breath of pure oxygen, it's very healing. The street food specialties like Qingming cakes and ancient Gucheng tofu are also worth a try. But make sure to book your car in advance, otherwise, you won't be able to find a ride back to the city center.
On the way back to the city, there are beautiful tea mountains, and it's also a nice experience to taste the tea here.

Bingding Wood Kiln, Jingdezhen Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The most beautiful wood-fired kiln in the world
The Bing Ding wood-fired kiln is said to derive its name from the idea that 'Bing fire is yang and vigorous, like the rays of the sun, full of energy radiating outward; Ding fire is yin and gentle, like moonlight or candlelight, inwardly harmonious and soft, thus achieving balance.' The combination of Bing and Ding fire symbolizes the harmony of yin and yang, the coexistence of spiritual energy, and the tranquility of all things. Because the wood-fired kiln is much larger than ordinary kilns, it takes a relatively long time to accumulate a batch of porcelain blanks for firing, so the number of times the kiln is opened each year is not particularly high.
As a structure, the Bing Ding wood-fired kiln features large areas of fair-faced concrete walls, latticed windows, arched structures, and steps, as well as many seemingly casually placed but actually aesthetically pleasing bisques and saggars (refractory containers used to hold ceramic blanks during firing). The overall effect of light and shadow, structural lines, and its simple and clean color tones make it very suitable for photography and checking in, and it is extremely photogenic.

Jingdezhen's most successful trend-following! Bingding Wood Kiln
Truly great results!
I had already planned for the Bingding Wood Kiln before leaving for Jingdezhen.
The much-anticipated Bingding is truly worth it!
I've summarized a few travel tips for your reference~
·
📍Bingding Wood Kiln (far from the city center 🉑charter/self-drive)
🎫Ticket: 30💰 (negotiable at the door)
🕒Visiting hours: 8:00-18:00
(Closed on Tuesdays, open on holidays)
·
🗿If you don't like taking photos, don't go❌
Objectively speaking~ If you like architectural aesthetics, enjoy taking photos📸 and dressing up, then it's definitely worth a visit.
Otherwise, this place is just a personal kiln, located in a remote ravine, and it's easy to get lost driving, with a stretch of road without signal. There are no shops around, and it's just a single building, not very big, you can finish walking around in 20 minutes...
·
🗿If you like minimalist architectural beauty/wabi-sabi style💯
✅Route planning:
Bingding Wood Kiln - Yaoli Ancient Town - Hanxi Village - Porcelain Palace can all be planned in one day, and after visiting, head directly to Jingdezhen North Station, which is very close.
✅Photo-taking strategy
🔹Play for about 1h (some spots require queuing to get a good shot)
🔹The overall architecture is a symmetrical structure of fair-faced concrete, wearing white/black can make for better photos
🔹Shooting spots
📸Stairs on both sides of the corridor
📸Hall stairs (centered for symmetrical beauty)
📸Side exhibition stand in the hall
✨If you come to shoot on a sunny day, the sense of light and shadow will definitely be better.
I came on an overcast day, and I actually like the hazy and soft light~
·
⚠️Be careful, the exhibits inside are all ceramic products
Fragile and not cheap❗Don't scrape them with your backpack~

Imperial Kiln Museum! (551)
The Imperial Kiln Museum is located at No. 187, Zhushan Middle Road, Zhushan District, Jingdezhen City.
It covers an area of 9,753 square meters and is a science and technology-themed museum dedicated to traditional crafts.
Established in 1997, it officially opened to the public on November 18, 1998.
The museum's exhibits are rotated, classified according to the different shapes and ages of the pieces, displaying a variety of ceramics and restored porcelain relics, enhanced with lighting projections. Each exhibit is accompanied by explanatory signs in both Chinese and English, along with auxiliary photos.
The museum's architecture is 'Asia' character-shaped pavilions 🏗️, with six floors both bright and dark, featuring flying eaves and towering corners, majestic in appearance, and embodying the style of ancient buildings in the south of the Yangtze River 🏘️. From the top floor, one can overlook the panoramic view of the city.
The museum takes on an extra charm under the night sky 🌃!
