Starting from Luzhou Station, I spontaneously decided to get off at nearby Luxian County to visit Yuchan Mountain and Longnao Bridge here. After exiting the station, I took a taxi to the first stop, Yuchan Mountain. The scenic area’s entrance is located halfway up the mountain, requiring a walk along a winding mountain road. Yuchan Mountain is named for its jagged rocks resembling toads. The mountain is home to numerous cliff inscriptions, which are national treasure-level cultural relics. After purchasing a ticket, I entered the gate and began climbing. The road is flanked by dense trees, and since it had just rained, the air was especially fresh. With few tourists around, the atmosphere was particularly tranquil. The first thing that appeared was a stone archway with plaques inscribed “Chan Ku” and “Yuchan Wonderland.” According to folklore, there is a three-legged toad on the moon, so ancient people often referred to the moon as Yuchan. Although toads can be off-putting, once transformed into the moon, the imagery is completely different. Continuing upward, after passing a forest of pagodas, I saw the cliff inscriptions, the core attraction of Yuchan Mountain. Yuchan Mountain is famous in Southwest China for its Ming Dynasty statues, with over 400 surviving. The most iconic is the Thousand-Hand Guanyin statue on the cliff face before me, standing 5.6 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide, with 11 heads and 36 arms, each hand holding a ritual object. The thousand hands and eyes make it a masterpiece of art. This area is relatively flat, and hidden in the dense forest opposite is an ancient temple, which I found abandoned upon entering. Returning to the trailhead behind the cliff inscriptions, there is an archway with a plaque inscribed “Arhat Street.” Climbing up from here leads to the mountain summit. At the end of Arhat Street is the peak of Yuchan Mountain, where a pavilion offers panoramic views. To the north are the tall buildings of the county town, while other directions feature green waters and mountains, dotted with scattered homes. Descending from Arhat Street, I took a small path outside the red walls of the ancient temple to look for the Refugee Relief Relief Sculpture but found nothing, so I returned to the Thousand-Hand Guanyin. Here, a fork in the path leads to a cliff wall with many more stone carvings. Among them, the “Eighteen Arhats Crossing the Sea” depicts the story of the eighteen arhats celebrating Guanyin’s birthday by crossing the sea. This Guanyin statue is beautifully shaped, resembling an ancient maid, very charming, and is known as the “Charming Guanyin.” The “Preaching and Teaching” carving shows the Buddha preaching to fifty-six disciples, a grand scene. Additionally, the cliff wall bears the characters “Yuchan,” signed by Huang Shan’gu, who is Huang Tingjian. Deep in the cliff is a statue of Emperor Jianwen, who, according to legend, once visited Yuchan Mountain during his exile. Among these toad-shaped rocks, I found a small path down the mountain. At the exit, two giant stones called the “Twin Toads Calling” are said to have a beautiful legend. The Yuchan Mountain scenic area is not large; it took only an hour to return to the gate. There are no cars to call here, so I had to walk down the mountain, which took about ten minutes to reach the foot. Next, I headed to Longnao Bridge.

At 7:15 a.m., with the mist still lingering, I squat before the third bridge pier. My fingertips lightly touch the white elephant’s ear, the stone surface cool and slightly rough, yet with a warm patina—that is the kiss left by 600 years of morning dew, moonlight, fishing lights, and barefoot children; Looking closer, a cluster of wild mint sprouts from the blue lion’s right claw crevice, its leaf veins as clear as palm lines; When the wind passes, the whole bridge emits a very faint humming, like a low chant, a sigh, or a long “hmm.” Why here?
