Otsuka Museum of Art Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The Place Where Kenshi Yonezu Sang at the Red and White Song Battle
I visited the Otsuka Museum of Art in Tokushima Prefecture.
I decided to go there because of its topicality as the place where Kenshi Yonezu performed at the Red and White Song Battle, and I'm really glad I did.
As soon as you step in, you feel as if you've entered an art museum overseas.
The museum reproduces various paintings from around the world on ceramic boards, and I was deeply moved by the replicas, including the famous Sunflowers by Van Gogh.
Even for those who are not familiar with art, there are well-known paintings like the Mona Lisa, which are so well done that they make you want to see the real thing.
The museum is quite spacious, and it can take quite some time to look around carefully, so if you're coming on a tour, it might be a good idea to decide in advance which paintings you want to see.
Otsuka Museum of Art
Address: Fukuike-65-1 Narutocho Tosadomariura, Naruto, Tokushima 772-0053, Japan
Getting there: The museum is also about a ten minute walk from the Naruto Koen bus stop.
Highlights: The Otsuka Museum of Art was built in Naruto Park on the occasion of the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Group's 75th anniversary. It is the largest museum in Japan, featuring life-size reproductions of virtually every representative masterpiece of Western art from antiquity to the 20th century.
The museum is well presented and enables visitors to appreciate so many master artists all in one place. Besides over a thousand paintings, the museum displays reproductions of altars, tombs and entire halls, such as the interior of the Sistine Chapel. The admission is slightly expensive but definitely worth it if you are an art enthusiast!

Uzunomichi Observatory Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Amazing whirlpool in the sea
If you are driving thru the Kobe/ Awaji/ Shikoku area, I would highly recommend making a visit to the Uzunomichi Observatory and Walkway.
The observatory is part of the Naruto Bridge connecting the Awaji Island and Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku. The whirlpool current changes by the hour each day and is the strongest during full moon and new moon. You can go on to the website for the Uzunomichi and it will show the best day and hour for viewing.
If you drive, it is best to park at the observatory parking lot which costs ¥500 per day. You can then follow the sign and walk 10 minutes to the bridge observatory entrance to buy tickets . The fee for adult is ¥510, while primary / high school students costs 260/410 yen respectively.
We visited on a day of “medium “ tide , but at the best hour, and we thought it was quite amazing already. I was told that the strongest whirlpool is during spring and fall, so best to plan your trip accordingly. This is a must see while traveling in the Kansai region of Japan!
Open daily 9-5pm
