📍Shanghai|1933 Old Millfun
The light hits the thick industrial-style cement walls, the unique Basilica-style architecture, every corner seems to be a never-boring scenery, a casual shot is a very artistic photo...
📸Photo check-in:
🔸Umbrella column: The most eye-catching detail element of the outer ring of the building is a 'umbrella column' divided into octagonal and quadrilateral, large on top and small on bottom, with pattern decoration. The whole building is a beamless roof design, supported by these 300 umbrella columns
🔸Cattle Road: The cattle road is specially designed for the separation of people and livestock. Any livestock that walks up this ramp is on a one-way street, and you can still see heavy hoof prints on the mottled ground. The ground of the ramp is very rough, which is a specially designed anti-slip technique for easy animal walking
🔸Central Circle: The inner circle of the main building is also called the 'central circle', with three floors, which was the slaughterhouse workshop before. There are numerous bridges of different widths here, and cattle of different sizes pass through here in turn
🔸Spiral staircase: The steps on the side of the corridor are extremely narrow and spiral upwards, which is the escape route for workers. These passages are only one person wide, and livestock cannot enter, they are specially built to avoid livestock injuries
🔸Hollow cement lattice window: The window lattice is arranged alternately with squares and circles. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, it also has necessary ventilation functions. A large area of hollow cement lattice windows can also create very beautiful light and shadow effects

🎞️1933 Old Millfun was originally the slaughterhouse of the Shanghai Ministry of Works, designed by the famous British designer Balfours, it was the first in East Asia and the third large-scale slaughterhouse in the world at that time. The architecture blends Eastern and Western characteristics, the buildings are staggered up and down, the corridors are winding, the structure is complex, but orderly, and advanced architectural techniques such as 'beamless roof', 'umbrella column', 'rotating ramp' are used. Now, more than eighty years ago, the slaughterhouse has transformed into a business circle + literary circle, with many catering, entertainment, education and design companies settled in, forming a diversified cultural and entertainment ecological circle. 'Tiny Times' was filmed here.

Shanghai's 1933 Old Mill: Photography
As a travel blogger, I can say that Shanghai is one of the most intriguing and captivating destinations in the world. While there are plenty of sights and attractions to visit in this vibrant and bustling city, one location that never fails to impress is the 1933老场坊 (1933 Old Millfun).
Address - Located in Hongkou District in Shanghai, 1933老场坊 is a former abattoir turned into a unique building complex. The industrial-style architecture, with its maze-like passages and hidden corners, makes it one of Shanghai's most exciting places to explore.
Highlights - The primary attraction of 1933 Old Millfun is its history. This building was first constructed in 1933 by British architect Balfours, with its modular design and reinforced concrete structure, to serve as an abattoir for the city's rapidly growing population. However, it remained closed for decades until, in 1996, it was opened again as an innovative and unique complex for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
The photography potential of 1933老场坊 is enormous. The architectural elements are simply stunning, making for some fantastic rustic, industrial photos. The complex's labyrinthine layout is perfect for creating intriguing visual narratives that capture the essence of the location.
One of the most remarkable things about 1933 Old Millfun is its sinister aura. The labyrinthine corridors can be intense and unnerving, making it a perfect setting for thrillers, mystery dramas, and horror movies. Many photographers and filmmakers have used this location to create eerie and atmospheric visuals.
Rating - I would rate 1933 Old Millfun a 4.5 out of 5. Though it may not be for everyone, it is an excellent place to visit for those who love to explore and discover new things. It's a perfect location for photography enthusiasts, thrill-seekers, and anyone fascinated with the history of Shanghai.
In conclusion, 1933 Old Millfun. is a true gem in the heart of Shanghai that allows travelers to step back in time and experience the city's rich history. It's a must-visit destination for anyone visiting Shanghai who wants to explore something truly unique and visually captivating.

The site of a converted slaughterhouse is now home to handcraft vendors, new restaurants, a cigar store, trinket stalls and book stores.
Most people head here to take photos with the old architecture, the slaughterhouse bridges and the stain glass windows. It's easy to reach by metro and taxi and won't take up too much of your day.
Around the slaughterhouse are a bunch of converted mills and warehouse ready to be occupied by new stores, restaurants and vendors. I imagine once this area takes off it will be full of vintage stores, photography outlets and restaurants. For now it's a cool place to explore with lots of history and take cool pics.

Abandoned Slaughterhouse - Shanghai
#createwithtrip
When in Shanghai, the last thing you would imagine is abandoned places. 1933 Old Millfun (DiDi address) is something worth taking a trip to to visit. It’s fun to hang out and take photos here, also there are a few cats roaming the area happy to join with a photo. Many Chinese visit here as it’s a good place for fashion shoots with the basic and bare backgrounds. Expect to wait a few minutes to take shots in some places.
Just 10 minutes walk away, you will find a Friends Cafe. This is entirely designed on the TV show and has episodes playing in the cafe area. It is small though and sometimes you may have to wait for a table.

One of the most iconic buildings of Shanghai
Located in the Hongkou district of Shanghai, the historic 1933 Old Millfun was once a slaughterhouse producing meat, but has now been beautifully revitalized into a multipurpose space for shops, cafe and art performances.
Popular along local millennials, tourists and even filmmakers (such as Say Yes and Tiny Times), there’s plenty of photo opportunities between its maze of concrete staircases and interweaving bridges 📷

The architecture of the 1933 Old Millfun blends the characteristics of the East and the West. In the building you can see the style of an ancient Roman basilica, and the basic structure of the outer circle and inner square also coincides with the traditional concept of “heaven and earth” in Chinese fengshui. The infinite changes between light, shadow, and space present a unique architectural wonder. The 1933 old Millfun is a unique creative park area transformed from a slaughterhouse. It has a unique design and amazing space. It has hosted large-scale commercial activities such as the Ferrari F1 party and the 50th Anniversary of Radar. The Tiny Times was filmed here. When the weather is good, you can also see a lot of new couples shooting wedding photos here. The whole building is simple and unpretentious, and the atmosphere is down to earth. Only by careful observation can you detect the ingenuity of the original designer from the delicate decorative details that seem to be almost inadvertent. Such smooth production processes, sophisticated building structures, and excellent architectural designs actually appeared in Shanghai nearly a hundred years ago as a milestone. Old Millfun is much less crowded than Xintiandi and Tianzifang. The weekend may be more popular. I suggest you choose a sunny off day to visit. No. 29, Shajing Road, Hongkou District Transportation: Metro Line 4, Line 10 to Hailun Road Station (take Exit 2), walk about 10 minutes after exiting the station. Open hours: Mon through Sun 09:00 - 22:00

Shanghai 1933 Old Millfun is a complex of restaurants and shops in Hongkou District of Shanghai, China. The poured-concrete structures once housed the Shanghai Municipal Council Slaughterhouse, the largest slaughterhouse in Shanghai at the time. It’s also the shooting site for various Chinese movies/tvs like Tiny Times, Running man.
You can experience immediate cold or the difference of temperature as soon as you enter the building. Quite an interesting place to visit.
I want to travel to Hong Kong to visit old buildings and modern architecture.

Shanghai!
During the day, Shanghai also has many places that are great for taking photos and checking in!
Wukang Road is very suitable for strolling around for free! Its architectural style attracts many people to come and check in.
Jing'an Temple requires an admission fee, but taking photos outside is also nice. The temple blends with modern buildings.
The Oriental Pearl is a landmark that must be visited, and you can also visit the nearby Disney flagship store.
1933 Old Millfun has an industrial style and is also a great place for photography, full of industrial vibes, where you can take some cool photos.
Riding a bike on the roads of Shanghai is also quite nice, the trees on both sides of the road should have been pruned and the shading effect is really good

Checking in at 1933 Old Millfun, a popular spot for photo ops
1933 Old Millfun was originally the Shanghai Municipal Council Slaughterhouse.
In 1933, funded by the Municipal Council and designed by the famous British architect Balfours, the overall architecture is in the style of ancient Roman basilicas.
It's like a maze here, and it's also a new popular spot for check-ins in Shanghai, and a special place for photo shoots.
The walls here are all made of concrete, slightly rough. The walls are very thick, and it's quite cool here. You can choose either ramps or stairs to go from the ground floor to the upper floors. I chose the ramp. The surface of the ramp is very rough, with large grains of stone exposed, and the width of the divisions is super wide. This was originally a cattle path, designed to be rough and uneven to facilitate animal movement and prevent them from slipping.
Nowadays, 1933 Old Millfun has integrated international gourmet shopping, drama and music performances, and often hosts drama performances, fashion shows, corporate exhibitions, etc., becoming a gathering place for art, themed carnival parties, and it's exciting every week.

The former slaughterhouse, now a creative park|Shanghai 1933
|Shanghai 1933. The historical background of 1933 Old Millfun is very interesting. Initially, it was the Shanghai Municipal Council Slaughterhouse, used for slaughtering and supplying meat to the citizens. However, over time, this building gradually decayed and was abandoned.
In the early 20th century, British designer Balfours took over the task of rebuilding this building. He made full use of the characteristics of Eastern and Western architectural styles, incorporating the style of ancient Roman basilicas into the overall design. In addition, he also adopted the concept of Chinese Feng Shui, incorporating the basic structure of 'square outside and round inside' to demonstrate the traditional thought of 'heaven is round and earth is square'.
Today, 1933 Old Millfun has undergone tremendous changes and has become a place with a rich artistic atmosphere. People can come here to visit, take photos and check in, or sit in a cafe with friends and spend a leisurely afternoon. This place not only retains the history and appearance of the building, but also injects modern vitality, becoming a popular tourist destination.

1933 Old Millfun | A historical internet-famous check-in spot
Looking from the outside, it's a building with a sense of history 🏘️
It looks quite large from the outside, but it's not that big inside
Narrow stairs, spiraling cattle paths
Whether you like a place or not
Only when you've really been there and felt it will you know
This is also a place where the film Tiny Times has been shot
Not to say that you have to believe in the aesthetics of Tiny Times
But the various lights and shadows inside are very suitable for taking pictures 📷
I really like walking around and looking inside
But I didn't take any good photos
There are many company offices inside 💰
There are also some shops and beverage shops, of course, Starbucks is very eye-catching ☕️
There are also some tourists checking in and taking photos 📹
I haven't found any other attractions around for the time being
I saw another building with a sense of history and a chimney
The river next to it makes people feel that the location of the slaughterhouse is reasonable
On the way to 1933 Old Millfun, I came across 'Harbin' Road ❄️
I felt excited as if I met an old friend in a foreign land

Shanghai 1933 Old Millfun, tracing the history of the bullish taste, transformed into a fashionable trend, a place to check in and take photos.
Old Millfun, designed by British designer Balfours in 1933. The architectural style blends Eastern and Western characteristics, the overall building is like an ancient Roman basilica style, the outer square and inner circle structure subtly conforms to the traditional concept of 'heaven is round and earth is square' in Chinese geomancy.
'Beamless roof', 'umbrella column', 'corridor bridge', 'spiral staircase', 'cattle path' and many other characteristic architectural styles are integrated, the endless changes of light and space present a unique architectural marvel.

Photography Guide | 1933 Old Millfun Shooting Guide
1933 Old Millfun was originally the Shanghai Municipal Council Slaughterhouse, redesigned in 1933 by the famous British designer Balfours, transformed into a creative park, with a building area of about 31.7 thousand square meters, 5 floors, and a reinforced concrete structure.
The architecture of 1933 Old Millfun blends Eastern and Western characteristics. The entire building exhibits the style of ancient Roman basilica, while the basic structure of 'square outside and round inside' subtly conforms to the traditional Chinese concept of 'Heaven is round and Earth is square'.
Many people know about 1933 Old Millfun because of the movie 'Tiny Times'. The venue is indeed very suitable for shooting portraits, with its unique architectural color and structure, unmatched by other creative parks.
Most importantly, the creative park has a Starbucks, where you can rest at any time. There are also many dance rooms, painting rooms, and other creative shops upstairs, and there seems to be a pet dog cafe.
About equipment: It is emphasized to bring wide-angle lenses and telephoto lenses, because the architectural passages are relatively crowded, and wide-angle lenses are needed when shooting the extension of the stairs; the structure between the passages is also well-arranged, and telephoto lenses can be used for shooting.
Dress tone: It is recommended to wear simple black, gray or white, echoing the structure and color of the building; it is recommended to use black and gold tones for color grading to enhance the atmosphere of the environment.
Shooting angle: (1) At the corner of the stairs, use a triangular composition to shoot the model from above; (2) On the side of the stairs or aisle, shoot a close-up of the model walking through the aisle; (3) The model sits on the stairs, shoot a close-up of the model from below; (4) Shoot the model walking through various aisles and stairs from a high angle.

The basic structure integrates the traditional concept of 'heaven is round and the earth is square' in Chinese Feng Shui. 'Beamless roof', 'umbrella column', 'corridor', 'spiral staircase', 'cattle road' and many other characteristic styles, the infinite changes of light and space present a unique building.

❤Recommended reason: The reason I like it here is because it has a sense of architecture, from the structural system to the spatial relationship, you can take different photos from every angle, the strong industrial style gray walls and stairs, the staggered column platform architecture. In addition, it is also a cultural industry park, with office areas, western restaurants, coffee areas, small souvenir shops, etc.

📝tips: This is also one of the filming locations of the movie 'Tiny Times'!

Shanghai Weekend|City Walk from Wukang Road to 1933 Old Millfun
📷87% extroverted people, taking a photo in front of Wukang Building has become a social phobia
Wukang Road, no need for a map, no need for a walk route, there are people taking pictures at every corner. The seemingly calm photos in front of the Wukang Building are actually a frame of looking at the camera in the live that was completed within 5 seconds after a long time of twisting and running.
I have been in Shanghai for two years, and this is the first time I have come to this internet-famous road. It is really a surprise at every turn. Surprising mansions, surprising small shops and weird but reasonable decorations on Wukang Road.
Wukang Road➡️1933 Old Millfun, city walk is all about walking freely.

🎬"No one can be young forever, but there are always people who are young"
I am curious about the past and present of this slaughterhouse in Hongkou District that has undertaken the shooting of "Tiny Times"; I am even more curious about how the interlaced architectural structure designed by British designers can shoot geometric masterpieces.
But I didn't expect that on the way to the old millfun, I found a Japanese-style path and a good position for shooting a classical three-piece set. The wonderful thing about this city is that if you walk seriously, you can take pictures everywhere even without a professional camera.
👗Dressing tips:
Dark cold wind dressing, dark suits or small dresses to take dark industrial style;
The burgundy clothes form a strong color difference with the environment, which is very impactful and is a dressing inspiration.
It seems that any style here is reasonable, just tell the story with the lens!

In the afternoon of the weekend, Huifeng and Chang, remembered to go to the 1933 old workshop with Rong 17 and got up and acted. Take the camera and take the 17th road to get off at the new road in Zhoujiazui. I have seen me waiting at the station. I will see the 1933 old workshop far across the road. At first, I looked around and didn't have much surprise. The gray cement wall had a hint of historical sadness. When I looked closer, I found that there was a secret in this humble building that could not be spoken.
1933 Old workshop It seems to be the attraction of every visiting photographer.
1933 The old workshop was on the mottled cement road, and the traces of history continued to spread.
1933 The old scene was once bloody, and it was replaced by a photo studio and restaurant.

In 1933, the old workshop was originally the slaughterhouse of the former Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Industry. In 1933, it was funded by the Ministry of Industry and Bureau. Designed by the famous British designer Balvers, the Shanghai Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceuticals, built by a famous Chinese architect at that time, was in Shanghai Hongkou District. Kushiro was officially completed. Building area: about 31,700 square meters, building layers: 5 layers, structure: reinforced concrete structure.
When you walk in, there will be a sinister sense of sight, which is worthy of the previous slaughterhouse. Many small-time fans will come here to find their feelings.
The entire 1933 old factory, there are many places to shoot, the most recommended is the intricate stairs, is definitely a paradise for photographers. Here, it is recommended to use a wide-angle lens to show the complex structure of the entire building. Another net red landmark is its hollow window. It is recommended that you shoot the backlight when you are at sunset. It is best to shoot with a large aperture of the fixed-focus lens. It shows the feeling of time freeze

The 1933 old workshop was once the largest slaughterhouse in the Far East. Although it was a slaughterhouse, it was designed with the help of the famous British designer Balfours. The whole building blends Eastern and Western features. The ancient Roman style can be seen, and the basic structure of the inner inner circle also coincides with the traditional concept of the heavenly circle in Chinese Feng Shui.
After changing into a creative industry gathering area, the former slaughterhouse was transformed into a gorgeous structure. It inherits the original spatial structure system, high and low, chaotic, well-arranged, umbrella-shaped columns, covered bridges, cattle roads, etc. Under the change of light and shadow and space, many characteristic style buildings have different styles at different times and different angles, which has become the location for many TV dramas and variety shows.
It is very convenient to go to the 1933 old venue. Metro Line 4 or Line 10 to Hailun Road Station, and Exit 2 can be reached in about 10 minutes.
Because the whole old venue is gray and cold, so you can choose the brighter clothes when you go to the old venue. The bridge and the spiral ladder are good places to punch the cards. There are many stairs in the picture. Pay attention to avoiding the crowd, if the weather is good, just the light hits the face is more perfect.

I like to have a taste of life. The 1933 old workshop was originally the original Shanghai Industrial Bureau, and it was transformed into a creative industrial cluster. It inherits the original structural system and spatial relationship. Due to its historical background and architectural qualities, it is endowed with Its unique charm. Witnessing the old industrial buildings, how to rebuild the building is regaining vitality in this era of artistic awakening. The building built in the year 1933 has a strange layout of space. The outer square is surrounded by four buildings in the southeast and northwest. The four-square factory building in the middle is connected by a staircase. The whole building is high and low, the corridors are hovering, the design is like a labyrinth, but the order is clear. The processing workshop adopts the beamless floor cover, which was a very advanced technology at that time.
Photograph TIPS:
turning corner: There are too many corners in the criss-cross space, standing at the corner, the photographer will feel very good from the overhead angle.
High and low steps: As long as you pay attention to the horizontal and vertical composition, the photographer has a good visual effect from the opposite side or the low body.
Black wooden door: A relatively clean background, you can take some emotional films.
The corners with light: As long as there is light, the old workshop is very suitable for taking pictures with rich and dark layers. People should stand on the bright side.
