#citywalk This is an ancient city with dual images between days and nights. Around the city, with all the lighting everywhere in the evening, it is a dreamlike and blinking place. Young ladies wearing gorgeous (苗族) traditional clothes are everywhere. They rent the clothes with makeup service and professional photographer to take pretty photos for them. There are lots of bars along the river (Tuo Jiang). Singers perform in the bars until 11:30pm according to the regulations. There are also snacks and souvenior shops along the river and on all streets/paths. In the day time, it's a completely different place without lighting and crowds. If you want to see the "ancient city", make sure to enter the city gates.

Ancient Fairy Town

Spent a day in Fenghuang Ancient City and was mesmerized by this magical little town. I stayed in a beautiful room on the river with a balcony that overlooked all the activity. It was raining most of the time, but the mist just added more of a fairy-like atmosphere to the whole experience. Phoenix town (Fenghuang/凤凰) is a small town in Hunan province. We went there on the way to Zhangjiajie Park. It's absolutely stunning after sunset, so you'd better stay for the night there. There are many small cute cafés facing the river and a lot of "photo shops" renting garments and offering photography services. It's small, so a day and night is quite enough (IMHO) In some sources it's said to be a UNESCO heritage site, though I'm not 💯% sure. It's a nice travel spot: if you are in Hunan or north-east Guizhou, don't miss it We got there from Tongren by shared hello taxi (beware of unexpected extra charges) and went to Zhangjiajie by train In peak season (end of July) it may be quite hard to find a didi/hello taxi, so plan accordingly #phoenixtown #fenghuang

Instead of the misty mornings, you see a town buzzing with life, music and enthusiasm. Boats will silently crawl past you as you take in the atmosphere, dancers on platforms in the middle of the water will entertain you. It is about a 30 minute drive from there depending on traffic Attractions - Within the ancient town you can wander and get food, drinks, photos along the river or pay extra entry fees to the historic scenic spots Hotels - Stayed at Yiyetang Songjian B&B which was gorgeous. 风雨桥 Very typical example of Hunan architecture, frequently encountered in small cities. If you will go to the Feng Huang old city you will make a parallel between those constructions and this bridge, no doubt. Located in 烈士公园 it actually could be easily missed! Please go to the upper part of above mentioned park until you will rich the border between park and apartment buildings, then keep walking.

Fenghuang Ancient Town (Phoenix Town) is a peaceful town just outside of Zhangjiajie. It can be done within a day if you use the local bus instead of taking a tour. We took a bus from the Zhangjiajie central bus station. Costs 80 RMB per trip and takes around 4h15min to get there. The journey back by bus was quicker, around 3h45min. They have loads of spots to buy snacks and water, and a few Chinese restaurants within the town.
