  • Moller Villa - A legendary building with over 80 years of history

    Moller Villa, located at No. 30, South Shaanxi Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai, is a garden villa with a strong Nordic style. In 1927, it was commissioned by British Jew Moller to the famous Huagai Architectural Firm at the time, and was completed in 1936. The main building is a three-story Scandinavian-style Norwegian-style building, just like a castle in a fairy tale world. In 1941, Moller left China, leaving behind this 'dream castle' that could not be taken away. After the liberation of Moller Villa, it was nationalized and used by the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League. It is now used by the Hengshan Moller Villa Hotel. There is a legend behind this villa: In 1926, Moller's daughter Diana had a magical dream. She dreamed that she turned into a beautiful princess and owned a 'castle like Andersen's fairy tale'. After waking up, Diana immediately drew the castle in her dream and showed it to her father. When Erik saw his daughter's painting, he, who always loved his daughter, immediately made a decision to fulfill his daughter's dream of a castle. So Moller began to design and build the Moller Villa in 1927, which took nearly 10 years, and the villa was completed in 1936. The main building of Moller Villa is in the Nordic architectural style, facing south to the north, with a 3-story mixed structure. The shape is varied, the roof is steep, there are three tall spires, and the spire has specially made lead tiles; the outer wall is made of brown fire-resistant bricks, and the roof is red tiles.

    Looking for a fantastic staycation in Shanghai? The Moller Villa is an outstanding hotel which will take your breath away, It is located in downtown Shanghai which make it so convenient to find places around for coffee or dining. I stayed there and felt absolutely spoilt. The environment is rich in history, well maintained and peaceful. Book in advance as there are not may rooms in this hotel. It has a restaurant, many lounge areas, and a beautiful garden where you can enjoy your coffee in the morning. Being in this hotel feels like a step back in time due to its classical features.     Stunning Bathtub at the Moller Villa hotel is an excellent plan to spend a relaxing afternoon in Shanghai. The bathtub is located next to the balcony and all the decoration is classy and tastefully selected. This is a good plan if you want to take a break from hiking, shopping or walking on the busy touristic streets. I would recommend to Book in advance this hotel as the best rooms with bathtub and balcony are the first to be taken. #valentinescape #Shanghai #China

    Shanghai really is spoiled for its choice of hotels. especially in the center of the city. And what better time to have a staycation than this time of year. Covid times can be tricky and Shanghai has really proved efficient in stopping the spread. And so has Moller. The hotel is located on downtown Jing’an. This German inspired building houses a grand old hotel with great ballrooms and a winding staircase. Nestled between modern skyscrapers this building looks a little out of place due to its age but stands out proudly and is super well lit. The rooms are very nice and come with a full sized bathtub and the food was very tasty and made fresh. If anyone is planning a staycation definitely check out this hotel. The outside is grand and the indoors is even grander. 😊 #christmasgiveaway #heritagehotel #staycation

  • Haunted Hotel in Shanghai?

    Definitely NOT!!!! This hotel is very far from haunted despite its old age. In fact, the hotel boasts its 88 years of existence through its marvelous furniture & fixture and intricate details from the wood parqueted floors to the stained glass windows. It’s an amazing experience to stay here. Too bad the tour of the hotel is only offered in Chinese. We would have loved to learn more about its history. The Executive Lounge was a public yet quiet space for some light snacking if you’re feeling peckish. The breakfast buffet also offers a variety of options, mainly local dishes. This is located smack in Jing’an district—so one can easily go from historic to modern cosmopolitan. #historicallandmarks #mytravelhacks

  • Hogwarts Magic Castle in the center of Shanghai | Moller Villa

    I stumbled upon a castle by chance, and it's so dreamy! After searching, I found out it's actually the Moller Villa🙌 It is said that the Moller Villa was built by a British Jewish man named Moller for his daughter's dream. It took 9 years to complete and was finished in 1936. The design inspiration for Moller Villa came from a dream of Moller's younger daughter, who envisioned a fairy-tale-like mansion, so Moller constructed this unique Norwegian-style residence according to the style seen in his daughter's dream. Although Moller was a British Jew, he was deeply influenced by Chinese culture. Therefore, while the exterior of the castle is European, it is said that the garden and interior details are all Chinese elements😄 I checked the online guides, and it seems that it used to be free to visit, but now it has been transformed into a hotel. It's not particularly expensive, about over 1000 yuan per night. You can visit if you go there for dining or lodging, but actually, the security doesn't really mind🤭

    Shanghai Moller Villa, located at the corner of Yan'an Middle Road and Shaanxi South Road in Jing'an District, Shanghai! It covers an area of over 5,000 square meters, with a garden area of nearly 2,000 square meters. It is a garden villa with a history of more than 80 years and a strong Nordic style! It has now become one of Shanghai's iconic garden villa buildings! The garden is paved with colored tiles and planted with precious trees such as Podocarpus and cedar.
