In the Spring Festival of 2020, I set foot on Cambodia with anxiety and unease. Cambodia, I never thought this country could be so cleansing to the soul. Its prosperity has faded away, sometimes even shabby, but it is said to be so sunny, simple, and full of hope. Plane landed in Phnom Penh, mainly visiting two major scenic spots: 1. The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh: It is the palace of the King of Cambodia, consisting of a group of buildings with golden roofs and yellow surroundings, with exquisite design and magnificent appearance. The palaces are all pointed, representing prosperity. The main colors of the palace body are yellow and white, with yellow representing Buddhism and white representing Brahmanism. The Royal Palace of Cambodia is indeed magnificent, but there is a world of difference between inside and outside the palace walls. 2. The National Museum of Cambodia adopts the architectural style of Khmer ancient temple with hipped roofs and carved doors, which reminds me of the architecture of the Black Temple in Chiang Rai (they belong to the same school). It integrates Khmer traditional architecture with French colonial style. The museum introduces the history of Cambodia, mainly including the pre-Angkor period, Angkor period, and post-Angkor period. The exquisite carvings of the Angkor period are breathtaking. It also makes me look forward to the trip to Angkor Wat starting tomorrow. Continuing to send to Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is divided into the Great and Small Angkor Wat. Simply put, the Great Angkor Wat is a city, while the Small Angkor Wat is a temple, also known as the Angkor Wat Temple. It is the pattern on the Cambodian national flag and the most exquisite part of Angkor Wat. If we talk about the biggest feeling of going to Angkor, it should be the collision of time and space. Here, you can see the rise and fall of a dynasty, the call of a disappeared city sleeping underground for centuries. Angkor is a city of vicissitudes. At every stage of life, coming here will bring different feelings. On the first day, we visited the so-called small circle, mainly Banteay Srei, the palace and temple, and Ta Prohm... Rather than saying that Angkor is a scenic spot, it is more like a kind of sentiment. Many people say that they must go to Angkor Wat once in their lifetime. As for me, it finally lifted the veil of Khmer and let me touch the distant faith, feeling the tranquility and vicissitudes of the ruins. On the second day, we visited the outer circle, including the Queen's Palace, Beng Mealea, Bakheng Temple (the architecture of Angkor is exquisite, and the structural design is clever, making it easy to take beautiful photos). The last stop was Ta Prohm, the shooting location of "Tomb Raider". Quoting a passage from "In the Mood for Love" to end the trip to Angkor Wat: "If you can't forget it, it means you haven't buried the secret in your heart, so you must go to Angkor Wat. If you want to start a new life, you should bring her to Angkor Wat, sit on the high Angkor Wat together, watch the sunrise and sunset, experience the vicissitudes of life, and express your endless sentiment." In Angkor, there is a natural tranquility and beauty, where every stone tells a story of the past. Being in the city, one's thoughts are endless, feeling their own ignorance and rudeness towards the weighty civilization. Here, some see the rise and fall, some see life and death, some are intoxicated by the scenery, and some gain enlightenment about life. However, Angkor remains silent, only smiling and watching the cycle of the world and the rising and setting of the sun and moon. A thousand years is but a moment.

Phnom Penh city is the capital of Kingdom of Cambodia. A very interesting place where you see the mix between the old area with markets, ancient buildings, narrow lanes and shops, together with the a French styles architecture of the colonial area where are located government buildings. Sadly you can't go inside, or take photos inside. But you are allowed to peek in the windows. When you walk around the outside of the building and take in the stunning architecture of the rooftops. They are quite a view. In feont of the palace there is a architecturally designed park which invites everybody to walk around and take a picture in front of the royal palace. Unfortunately the royal palace is closed temporarily but nevertheless you can walk around the palace and get a good impression on how big and beautiful the palace is. Furthermore there are a lot of restaurants and street vendors in the neighborhood. It is also recommended to walk along the river promenade

I must say, you must not missed this when you are in Cambodia as it will give you a glimpse of how Royal families live in real life in comparison to what we read in fairytale books. Other monarchies in the world are a bit strict when it comes to tourists coming in maybe for security purposes but it is great that Cambodia’s Palace is very welcoming to people. We are grateful that we get to see their King’s royal residence and complex. 🤴 NOTE: Please read signages as there are portions that we are not allowed to come in. Breathtaking Palace in The Heart of The City

The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda in Phnom Penh are home to magnificent architecture and priceless treasures and has been home of the monarchy since the 1860’s except briefly during the Khmer Rouge period. Half of the compound is private royal residence but there are plenty of things to see: the Silver Pagoda compound, the central compound including the Throne Hall and Chan Chhaya Pavilion. The palace sits on the river where you can get some great photos of the boats and activity along the river. Visitors should be respectful of Buddhist culture and won’t be allowed in with sleeveless shirts or shorts or dresses above the knees . If you aren’t dressed appropriately they have rental garments for a small fee or nearby shops sell them. It’s definitely a great way to learn about the country’s history and a peaceful way to spend a few hours. Cambodia's Royal Palace complex was begun by King Norodom I (ruled 1860-1904) in 1886, when the capital was moved to Phnom Penh. Most buildings were completed before World War I, with involvement by French administrators and Thai designers and architects. Its full name in Khmer is the Preah Barom Reacheaveang Chaktomuk Serey Mongkol.The Cambodian monarchs have occupied it since it was built in the 1860s, with a period of absence when the country came into turmoil during and after the reign of the Khmer Rouge. The palace was constructed between 1866 and 1870, after King Norodom relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh. It was built atop an old citadel called Banteay Keo. It faces approximately East and is situated at the Western bank of the cross division of the Tonle Sap River and the Mekong River called Chaktomuk. #aurora

Breath taking building design! The Royal Palace is convieniently located at the centre, making it very accessible to tourists. It is the home of the King of Cambodia. Surrounding gardens are very well maintained, very clean and really huge. You can enter on selected buildings to view the silver, gold, and other "treasures" of the royal family. It is exquisitely shaped and magnificent, including more than 20 large and small palaces such as Chaya Hall, Golden Temple, Silver Temple, Dance Hall and Treasure Hall. The palace has spires, which represent prosperity. The temple is dominated by yellow and white. Yellow represents Buddhism and white represents Brahmanism.  On the cloister of the building is a magnificent relief mural depicting the Angkor Temple and the achievements and religious stories of the dynasties. However, because there is a royal residence in the north part, visitors cannot visit it. The silver temple in the south is available for visits. Although the city does not speak, the building reflects the history of the city with bricks and tiles.

Entering the palace requires a full clothing like long sleeved tops, long skirt and pants that go below the knees. The camera cannot be taken inside the palace and taking photographs is prohibited.

Golden royalty and great architecture

One of the most iconic and distinctive buildings in Cambodia, the Royal Place. Built in the 1860’s, the palace has been the home to all royalty since. The King’s living area takes up over half of the palace grounds, but visitors are free to roam around the Silver Pagoda compound, the main area containing the Chan Chaya Pavilion, and Throne Hall, which is pictured above. Throne Hall is still in use today as a meeting place for the King to receive dignitaries, and is also used for ceremonies and coronations. #thingstodo Entrance fee included the Silver Pagoda. Be prepared to spend around an hour or so to visit the both. Dress sensibly with shirt covering the shoulders. There was a noon break when visits were not allowed. The Palace reopened at 2pm. The Throne Hall is the main building of the Royal Palace built in 1863 and it’s still used for religious and royal ceremonies. Unfortunately, photos are not allowed. One of the biggest tourist attractions in Phnom Penh, and it’s very popular! It’s a huge site with many beautiful buildings to visit and view, and the gardens are manicured. The detail inside and outside the various buildings are stunning. Remember to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting, even if you’re just visiting the gardens. And no photography allowed inside. Ticket price was a little high at $10 per person but it was a nice place to visit for the day. I would suggest adding this to your Phnom Penh itinerary. The silver pagoda area is the highlight in my opinion. Masks are required to enter and you should also dress modestly with shorts below the knee and no shoulders showing. The palace closes in the middle of the day It’s open 08:00-11:00 and 14:00-1700 daily Around the Palace ground, there are quite a few stunning architectures displaying the typical Cambodian rooftops and design.

Arggh! The royal palace was closed for visiting but we managed to feed the pigeons flying freely outside the Royal Palace .. just across the Royal Palace , there is this golden statue a lion looking across the Mekong river ..
