Yangloudong Ancient Town
Yangloudong Ancient Town was one of the six ancient towns in Puyi (now Chibi City) during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and is the original place of 'Songfeng Tea', known as the 'hometown of brick tea'.
Yangloudong Ancient Town plays a very important role in the development history of China's tea industry. Three hundred years ago, countries along the tea route took Yangloudong as their understanding of Chinese tea. This land, which is less than 0.7 square kilometers, has gathered merchants from various countries such as Russia, Germany, England, Japan, etc., forming a 'China Big Tea Market' with a population of over 40,000.
The town has an ancient street mainly composed of Ming and Qing buildings, with a width of 4 meters and a length of 2200 meters, accompanied by several T-shaped alleys. The area of the ancient street buildings is 0.7 square kilometers. The street is paved with bluestone. The 'Chicken Public Car' that transported tea in the past has ground the slabs into grooves more than an inch deep.
Following the clues of tea, you will find the history of prosperity or decline in many places. Through the fog of time, among those complicated factors, what you finally find is how tea is quietly changing people's lives. Yangloudong, a small town in Puyi County that is completely unfamiliar to many people and embraced by the mountains, is now as quiet as an ancient well. The stone streets of the Ming and Qing Dynasties; the distant green mountains, faintly visible like light smoke; the country roads, the old walls. The houses are old, the pedestrians are scarce, and on the narrow streets, there are only old people sitting idle and children playing. The stream formed by the flowing of Jiuyanquan can only bring a little convenience to the women who wash clothes. Only the stone slab road on the old street that has been worn away all the corners, and the deep grooves ground out by the single-wheel cart on the stone slab road, are still silently telling the glory of Yangloudong in the past.
Remember the past of Yangloudong, there is such an old man, in his inherited memory of his ancestors, there has been a history of several hundred years here. Around 1736, the first piece of green brick tea made by Mr. Lei Zhongwan, the owner of Yangloudong Tea House, was born here. The green brick tea made with the water of Jiuyanquan soon became famous, so it was called Dongzhuan by people. Since then, hundreds of thousands of tea bricks every year have been transported by local or Jiangxi sturdy farmers with creaking single-wheel carts, day and night, to Xindian thirty miles away, and then to Hankou, Baotou and Zhangjiakou, all the way to distant Russia.

The ancient town is leisurely, and the tea is fragrant | Wuhan self-driving 2h, hidden in the deep mountain ancient town
🏠This is a border town located at the junction of Hunan and Hubei - Yangloudong. The waves of the Yangtze River and the waves of Dongting Lake have not been able to wash here. Only the hilly mountain ranges gathered here, and people planted a sea of tea trees here. It is said that the tea fragrance of the small town has been diffused in the air during the Yuan and Song Dynasties, and it reached its peak during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The "forty-two tea houses, seventy-two chimneys" is the best portrayal of this period. But the ups and downs of history have gradually hidden her name.
Today's Yangloudong, like an old craftsman who guards outdated technology, is still silently waiting in the deep mountains. It's just that those old houses that condense the time and years, and those winding and winding old streets that reflect the historical light, are still telling the past.
📍Location: Yangloudong Ancient Town is located in Zhaoliqiao Town, Chibi City, Hubei Province
🚗Transportation: It takes about 2 hours to drive from Wuhan or Changsha. After the high-speed rail to Chibi North Station, you need to take a city and rural bus, or a taxi for about 100 yuan.
🗺️Travel guide:
1⃣️The ancient town is very small, especially the Ming and Qing stone slab streets that are the focus of protection. They are winding and narrow. It takes about half an hour to walk all the way, but there are some exhibitions and museums along the way. It takes one or two hours to study and appreciate carefully.
2⃣️At the end of the ancient street, there is a temple. In fact, there used to be an ancient temple in the town, called the General's Temple. Now the General's Temple has no trace, and the current Yuantong Temple was rebuilt decades ago. There is also an antique pagoda.
3⃣️Looking at the direction of the pagoda, you can ask the local residents along the small road. The mountain can be climbed. Some places can overlook the whole town. If you have a drone, you don't need to climb.
4⃣️Continue forward from the ancient temple, there is a Lei family courtyard, displaying some nostalgic old things, ten yuan ticket, whether it is worth it, everyone has their own opinions.
5⃣️The town is completely used for sightseeing. If you miss the slow-paced life of the small town, there are now two homestays on the ancient street where you can stay. Or go to Chibi City, you will pass Chunquan Manor Hot Spring and Longyou Hot Spring on the way, you can choose to stay here, and continue forward is Lushui Lake Scenic Area, once known as Little Thousand Island Lake, whether it is worthy of the name, everyone has their own opinions.
6⃣️If you are interested in the culture of the Three Kingdoms, then what makes this city known is the ancient battlefield of the "Battle of Chibi", which is more than 20 kilometers away from the city and another small town 50 kilometers away from the ancient town.
🍗Food:
1⃣️The ancient town is famous for its tea. The main tea here is brick tea, of course, there is also Songfeng Maojian. Some people in the ancient town also use brick tea to make milk tea, which can be tried.
2⃣️At the end of the ancient street, there are old people selling ice powder and mung bean soup. The ice powder is quite special, with ginger water added.
3⃣️Because it is located at the junction of Hunan and Hubei, the food here combines the characteristics of the two provinces, and the heavy oil and spicy taste is the main tone. In addition, the barbecue here is good, highly recommended.

Yangloudong Ancient Town
Yangloudong Ming and Qing stone slab street 'formed a market because of tea', was established in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and has a history of more than 400 years. It is a famous hometown of brick tea.
Legend has it that a pair of young men and women who loved each other eloped to the foot of Songfeng Mountain. Their white horse turned into a sheep, and the feces excreted by the sheep turned into tea seeds, growing tea trees all over the mountain. The couple built a bamboo building at the foot of the mountain, with people living upstairs and sheep downstairs. Since then, people have called this place Yangloudong.
Yangloudong brick tea is known for its reputation of 'Songfeng enters Yangloudong, tea fragrance surrounds Fengqiu, ancient rhyme Zhudong dawn, moon beside the stone man is thin'.
Here has a long and rich history, especially known for tea, known as the 'hometown of brick tea'. Yangloudong Ancient Town plays a very important role in the history of China's tea industry development. Three hundred years ago, countries along the ten thousand li tea road took Yangloudong as their understanding of Chinese tea. This area of less than 0.7 square kilometers has gathered elite merchants from various countries such as Russia, Germany, England, Japan, etc., forming a 'China Big Tea Market' with a population of over 40,000. The town now has an ancient street mainly composed of Ming and Qing buildings. The main street is 4 meters wide and 2200 meters long, with several T-shaped alleys. The ancient street has a building area of 0.7 square kilometers, and the street is all paved with bluestone. Yangloudong Ming and Qing stone slab street can be called a miniature of the history of China's tea industry development. In 1996, it was listed as a municipal cultural relics protection unit, and in 2002 it was listed as a provincial key cultural relics protection unit. In December 2010, Yangloudong was awarded the 'China Historical and Cultural Village' by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
