Chengdu Tiantai Mountain | A Perfect Blend of Natural Wonders and Cultural Treasures
Chengdu Tiantai Mountain Scenic Area is located in Qionglai City, Sichuan Province, about 110 km from downtown Chengdu. It is famous for its rich natural landscapes and profound historical culture.
• Natural Heritage and Titles: Tiantai Mountain is a World Natural Heritage Site, a National Scenic Area, a National Forest Park, and a National 4A Tourist Attraction. It is also one of the world's eight best places to see fireflies.
• Geography and Landforms: The main peak, Yuxiao Peak, is 1,812 meters above sea level. The scenic area is shaped like a U, with three terraces: Yitian Terrace, Ertian Terrace, and Zhengtian Terrace. It is known for its unique landscape of "one terrace after another, reaching the ninth heaven."
• Natural Scenery: Known for its "strange mountains, peculiar rocks, beautiful waters, secluded forests, and charming clouds," the area is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, with a forest coverage rate of about 95%. • Waterfalls and Water Features: The Jinlong River winds down from Yuxiao Peak, forming various water features such as beaches, streams, waterfalls, and lakes, as well as natural wonders such as low mountain seas of clouds and Buddha's light. It is known as "after visiting Jiuzhai, no other water can compare; after visiting Tiantai, no other water can compare."
• Biodiversity: Tiantai Mountain is a natural science popularization scenic area with rich flora and fauna resources, including national key protected plants such as dove trees, yews, and ginkgo, as well as national key protected animals such as giant pandas, forest musk deer, macaques, and giant salamanders.
• Historical Culture: Tiantai Mountain was formerly known as Dongmeng Mountain and is said to be the place where Dayu offered sacrifices to heaven during his flood control efforts. In history, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism coexisted on the mountain, with more than 100 temples, Taoist temples, and official residences at its peak.
• Firefly Viewing: Tiantai Mountain is the largest firefly viewing base in Asia. From April to October each year, various species of fireflies appear in succession, forming multiple peaks of viewing. Especially at night, thousands of fireflies dance by the water and in the grass, creating a spectacular scene.
