Houtong Cat Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Read if you are a cat lover !!! 🐱🐈🐈⬛
#timetotravel
As a cat lover, I was elated to find out that Taipei has its very own Cat Village. The Houtong Cat Village is located in the Ruifang district, which is a 15 mins drive away from Jioufen. When we arrived, I was initially disappointed as there were no cats greeting me at the entrance. However, as we climbed the stairs, we found many cats of different breeds and they were all very friendly and cute.
Fun Fact: Houtong was initially a small mining town and it was only in 2008, a group of cat lovers volunteered to offer the abandoned cats in Houtong a better life and posted these cats online, thus attracting a huge response from cat lovers globally and now it has become a center for cat lovers.
Overall, I really enjoyed my visit here and I am also extremely happy that the cats were very well taken care of here as well. I will definitely visit again in the future

Cat Village - Houtong near Taipei 🐈 🐱 🐈⬛
Houtong has attracted attention from all over Taiwan and even got featured on CNN, dubbed as the “Cats Village”.
It’s very easy to get there - trains run from Taipei Station every hour and arrive directly at Houtong in about 45-55 minutes
And once you stepped out of Houtong station, you will feel it’s nostalgia and presence of the meow members right away. Cats are literally everywhere!
The cats here are used to tourists oohing and aahing at them, or even getting treats from them - but do follow the rules which are shown almost everywhere to make sure cats are not harmed in any way.
Don’t miss the cats cafes and restaurants, or the cats souvenir shops that are mostly located on the other side of the station. You will get there by walking on the footbridge especially designated to be friendly to cats too.
Another highlight here is the mining museum that has a mine car ride, which is fun for kids too!#cats

Meow village is calling !
Are you a cat lover?
I am a cat lover and YES! one of my mission is to visit Houtong Cat village.
I went there with train from Taipei. I am so lucky as there was a shower rain on that day (not heavy rain) so, there were still a chance to meet some cat. I am walking to the mountain top and the weather is about 15 or 16 degree. A lot of little meow on the way, some you can play with them but some are aggressive. I stopped at a cat cafe for some bakery and hot drink.
This was very good time of mine in Taiwan!

In little more than two years, Houtong, which is located 35km east of Taipei in Ruifang district, managed to reinvent itself as a complete cat village. Today, more than 200 cats live in Houtong and a tourist industry has emerged with shops, cafes and restaurants catering to the many visitors who descend on this feline frontier every weekend.
How to get there : The easiest way to get here is by train from Taipei Station. Take the Yilan line (most often the terminus will be Su’ao) and simply get off in Houtong about an hour later.

Yinyang Sea Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
When minerals meets water- YinYang Sea
Best viewing location of Yin Yang Sea will be at Shui Nan Bus stop- YinYang Sea Observation deck (水湳洞-陰陽海觀景台) Do look out for cars if you want to grab a shot on the road. This area is perfect for your Instagram shots as well, it’s not very accessible so I will recommend you guys to charter a car tour or can rent a car to drive over. Best season to visit will be summer if you really want a good shot, if not most of the time it will be drizzling around the area just like my rainy photos. #Yinyangsea #newtaipei #Youtohbindou

Taipei, Jiufen, super beautiful small attractions "Small Kamakura" Yin Yanghai
this time to go to Jiufen, take the road to check out the small Kamakura in Taiwan: Yin Yanghai, really beautiful on sunny days ! Do not lose the "authentic" Kamakura in Japan!
Itinerary:
Yinyanghai is next to Jiufen. It is recommended to play with Jiufen; you can also go to the Pingxi train to play together.
Transportation:
There are buses to Jiuyang Old Street and Ruifang Station to Yinyanghai. Take Bus No. 856 to get off at Shuinongdong, but 856 is really super difficult! One hour and one bus, so I suggest you still take a taxi.
We took a taxi from Jiufen Old Street and talked with the driver about the price in advance, 600 Taiwan dollars for the whole journey. The midway driver took us to the Golden Falls to see the yin and yang, let the driver wait a minute, we took about 20 minutes, really embarrassed, but the driver did not complain, and finally sent us to Ruifang station , ride back to Taipei.
The best shooting position
The best shooting position is shown in Figure 7, which is what the driver told us, because the photographer stands taller and can shoot more seas.
There is also a small platform next to it, which can be used to shoot the entire sea, very spectacular.
The origin of the name of Yin and Yang Hai
Before going to Yinyanghai, I dont know why it is called Yinyanghai. I only know that it is a small Kamakura in Taiwan. When I came here, I understood the second, because the sea here has two colors, half blue, half yellow, and looks very much like yin and yang.
Have any questions, please leave a message in the comments, I will reply
Taiwan has so much to offer. We were able to see all of this places in a day! 😍

Precious & Jussive | Travel New Taipei City Day Tour | Little Kamakura in Taipei.
1. Yin Yang Sea
When you stand on the observation deck of the Shuinandong parking lot, you can clearly see the entire Yin Yang Sea. At that moment, you will notice that the sea presents a yellow-brown and azure blue color, with what seems like a dividing line in the middle that separates the sea into two distinct colors, which is quite rare.
The coastal road along the Yin Yang Sea also resembles the classic scene from the movie 'Our Little Sister' at the Kamakura High School Front Station in Japan, giving people the illusion of being in Kamakura, Japan.
Address: Yin Yang Sea on the north side of the Shuinandong settlement in Ruifang District, New Taipei City
Transportation: Take bus 856 or 826 to Shuinandong Station.
2. The Thirteen Levels
The Thirteen Levels was once the largest smelting plant in the area around Shuinandong.
When you stand on the observation deck of the Shuinandong parking lot, you will see the Thirteen Levels right across the Yin Yang Sea, a two-for-one sight.
From the photos, it can be seen that the site still preserves industrial relics and architectural structures. Viewed from a distance, the Thirteen Levels looks like a palace forgotten by time, surrounded by dense trees and piles of grass, exuding a unique desolate beauty and allowing you to witness this historical relic.
3. The Nameless Coffee Shop in Jinshan
There is a popular check-in spot along the New Taipei coastline, which is this nameless coffee shop!
The coffee shop has a yellow exterior and is located next to a sloping path. Outside the shop, there are decorations like lifeboats and lifebuoys. The shop offers a variety of food and drink options, such as curry beef rice, freshly baked pizza, desserts, hot chocolate, etc., which are quite tasty. The minimum consumption per person is one drink, with a 90-minute time limit.
For those who love to watch the sea and relax in a coffee shop, this is a place where you can enjoy both pleasures!
Address: No. 4, Dangjin Highway, Jinshan District, New Taipei City
