After visiting friends who reside in Valrico, FL in Feb 2021, my husband & I mulled quiting our IL jobs to move to Florida. The weather, friendly FL folk, employment opportunities were intriguing. Before taking a faith leap, we took a 2nd vacay for an in-depth look. Should we vacay or stay? Midwest is home for our entire lives. Subtropical life - could we handle it? Two weeks in St. Pete/Clearwater area in July provided an answer. Life moves fast- traffic is no exception. Toll costs add up quickly. Ongoing road construction & U-turns are norm!! Interesting, gracious people of diff ethnicities abound. Numerous food options, breathtaking beach views, hot weather, and service-based job opps await. Wildlife and nature reserves are plentiful. We love Florida! Our Midwest roots, particularly family & job history, will keep us planted here - for now! Today, we vacay but one day, we may just stay!

Blind Pass Resort Motel Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Nice spot in a great location
The title pretty much sums up my experience here. I liked a lot of what they offered. The rooms are clean and the staff clearly does a great just keeping them that way. Decor is simple but on brand. A few things I really liked that I'll highlight: no bugs first of all which if you've not stayed in Florida often, is more impressive than you'd think. They have a heated pool with a waterfall that I didn't use but did appreciate. They place the towels with some gifted toiletries that are really good. This one is probably unique on the list of likes, but I'll preface it with this. I stay in a lot of hotels and the first thing I do once I check into any room is go to the AC unit and pull out the filter. Just to check and see how detailed they are at whatever location. Well, this place has the individual interior hung wall units which are remote controlled and a very nice touch. You can see one in my picture of the room. No window or floor unit to deal with at all. Mine was a studio room and it was just fine, decent amount of room. Had a two door mini fridge so freezer and fridge. Very small but unless you plan on living here it's just fine. Microwave mounted and plenty of cabinet space. That leads to another big plus, the room comes with silverware, plates, cups, mugs, and bowls. Huge deal for anyone who's ever had to ask the front desk for a fork and had no one there. Coffee maker with Folgers that actually makes a somewhat solid brew which I find notable versus most places. And I liked that they gave me two regular coffees, as I find giving out decaf is really just upsetting. They really do put a lot of thought into the rooms and it shows. They also have one washer and dryer which is posted to cost $1.50/cycle. However, they may be free. Idk I paid for the wash but when I went to the dryer I just hit the cycle and it started right up. There were a couple things I didn't love but nothing major. First, the room locks are all key pad accessible which is a good thing. However, I decided to walk to the gas station around 1am and when I got back my key code didn't work. I called the emergency number about 5-6 times and tried several options from the pre recorded automated list. Left 3-4 messages and couldn't get in. Which did suck because it happened to be one of the 5-10 days a year wherein the temperature got into the 40s. They are basically a self checkin place so you check in online and they text you your code. So I text that number a few times and around 4am it got answered. They had given me a new code at checkin which was not updated into the lock. Admittedly I'm a pretty easy-going guy and even though it was 3 or so hours outside waiting, this really wasn't a big deal for me. Things happen and can't control what you can't control so I don't consider this a big entry on the con list overall. The second negative may be a bigger deal to most. the showers topped out at maybe 100 degrees. That said, it is Florida outside typically so eh.#freehotelstay
