Hi, guys! So, in this post, I want to share something genuinely personal about how my relationship with travel has evolved, because I think the experience I am about to describe is one that more people have had than openly talk about, and I am curious whether it resonates with you. I have spent the last few posts describing myself as a Nature Seeker, and that description is accurate and genuinely reflects how I approach most trips. Mountains, beaches, national parks, waterfalls, the further from urban density the better. That is my default setting, and it has been for as long as I can remember traveling with any real sense of what I was looking for. But here is something I have come to believe after enough trips to enough different kinds of places: the destinations that change us the most are rarely the ones that give us more of what we already know we love. They are the ones that introduce us to something we did not know we were missing. And for me, that destination was Australia. I arrived in Australia as a Nature Seeker with every intention of remaining one. Australia has the kind of natural environments that should make any Nature Seeker immediately and completely at home: the Great Barrier Reef, the Red Center, the dramatic coastlines, and the ancient and otherworldly landscapes of the outback. The natural credentials are extraordinary, and I was fully prepared to spend my time there chasing all of it. What actually happened was something I did not see coming and did not plan for. Australia's Aboriginal history and culture was the thing that first produced this shift in me, and I want to be honest that it happened partly because I was confronted with how little I actually knew. The more I learned, even in the relatively surface-level way that a visitor can learn during a short trip, the more I wanted to know. I found myself spending time in museums that I would normally have walked through quickly on the way to something outdoors. I found myself in conversations with locals that extended well beyond the usual tourist exchange. But it was not only the Aboriginal history that produced this transformation. It was Australia's broader cultural character, the specific and sometimes surprising way that this country has developed its own distinct identity from an extraordinarily diverse mix of influences and histories. The multicultural food scene that reflects waves of immigration across generations. Public art is integrated into urban environments in ways that make it part of daily life rather than confined to galleries. The sporting culture and what it reveals about community and collective identity. The way everyday Australians interact with each other and with visitors is genuinely open and unpretentious. Even the cafés, which in certain Australian cities have developed a coffee and hospitality culture that feels like a genuine local invention rather than an import. What about you, guys? Some travelers never fly without headphones, snacks or a power bank. For me, one of the most important things in my carry-on is my travel-size beauty kit. After months of traveling through different countries, climates and time zones, I have realized that these products are not only about beauty. They help me feel clean, comfortable and more like myself after long flights, overnight transfers, hot tropical days or cold windy destinations. My rule is simple: every product must be compact, practical, multifunctional and genuinely useful. What’s inside my travel beauty kit? 1. Dry shampoo My emergency solution for long journeys, early departures and days when washing and drying my hair is not convenient. 2. Enzyme cleansing powder for face and body It takes very little space, lasts a long time and is much easier to pack than a large liquid cleanser. 3. Solid deodorant Compact, leak-proof and ideal for carry-on luggage. 4. SPF 50 for face and body I carry a sunscreen stick for my face and a body spray that I bought in Thailand. Sun protection is completely non-negotiable during my travels. 5. Elizabeth Arden solid moisturizer and hand cream A gift from my good friend when she visited Guatemala. Both products are rich, compact and especially useful in dry or cold climates. 6. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Probably my biggest travel must-have. It literally saved my skin in Tibet, where the temperature dropped below zero, the wind was extremely strong and the air was very dry. 7. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate It was perfect for cold weather and helped my skin recover after flights. Mine has just finished, so I am currently searching for another lightweight but deeply moisturizing night product. 8. The Ordinary aloe serum Ideal after sun exposure and long flights when my skin needs something soothing and refreshing. 9. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream One of my absolute favorites. I use it as both a day and night moisturizer and sometimes on dry areas of my body too. 10. Beeswax lip balm A gift from my American mom. I always keep it close because airplane cabins dry out my lips very quickly. 11. ORLY nail polish I also carry a small basic manicure and pedicure kit. It is not essential for everyone, but small self-care rituals make long trips feel more comfortable. 12. MAC Cosmetics compact powder Perfect for refreshing my face after a flight without carrying a full makeup bag. 13. Aloe vera gel from a Thai pharmacy Cooling, lightweight and very useful after long days in the sun. Pro tips for packing travel-size cosmetics ✈️ 💡 Choose multifunctional products. A cream that works for both face and body or a cleansing powder suitable for different uses can save a lot of space. 💡 Prioritize solid formats. Solid deodorant, sunscreen sticks, balms and cleansing powders are easier to pack, less likely to leak and more convenient at airport security. 💡 Keep the essentials easy to reach. I always place my lip balm, hand cream, SPF and moisturizer in an accessible pocket instead of at the bottom of my backpack. 💡 Never test new skincare during an important trip. Changes in climate, water, food and sleep already put extra stress on the skin. I prefer to carry products I already know and trust. 💡 Adapt your beauty kit to the destination. For cold and windy places, I pack richer products such as La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. In tropical countries, I focus on SPF 50, aloe products and lightweight hydration. 💡 Use refillable containers. There is no need to carry full-size packaging for a short trip. I transfer products into smaller containers and label everything clearly. 💡 Protect everything from leaks. Even travel-size bottles can open because of pressure changes. I keep liquids in an extra zip bag and make sure every lid is tightly closed. 💡 Protect compact powders from breaking. A cotton pad placed inside the compact can provide extra protection during transportation. 💡 Keep important products in your carry-on. Checked luggage can be delayed or lost, so I never check in my essential skincare, sunscreen or difficult-to-replace products. 💡 Check airport rules in advance. Liquids, gels and creams in carry-on luggage are commonly limited to containers of up to 100 ml, but rules may vary by airport and route. 💡 Audit your cosmetic bag after every trip. When I return, I check what I actually used. Anything that stayed untouched usually does not come with me next time. My travel beauty kit changes depending on the climate, destination and length of the journey. The goal is not to carry as many products as possible. When I was planning my trip, I thought the famous "Avatar Mountains" would be the highlight. But after three days in Zhangjiajie, I realized that it was Tianmen Mountain that impressed me most. I'll definitely talk about Avatar Park in my next post, but today, I'll just share practical tips about Tianmen Mountain. My tip #1: Don't be afraid of the 999 steps. If you're faced with the choice of taking the escalator or climbing the 999 steps to Heaven's Gate, choose the steps. Firstly, it's one of the most striking experiences of the route. Secondly, there are many more steps further into the park. These 999 steps are a great opportunity to find your own pace and calmly get into the swing of things. My tip #2: Prepare before you go. There's an important detail that's rarely mentioned. After you climb the 999 steps, there will be no restrooms or water shops before the long escalator. So beforehand: ✔️ Go to the restroom; ✔️ Buy a bottle of water. After the climb, a long escalator with seven sections awaits, which will take you to the main part of the park. There you'll find everything you need: restrooms, cafes, Chinese food stalls, and even a Burger King. You can rest and recharge before the rest of the walk. Which route should I take? I took Route B and never regretted it. The differences between the routes are slight: Route B ✔️ First, take the cable car; ✔️ Finally, take the bus down. Route A ✔️ First, take the bus; ✔️ Take the cable car back. I find the cable car ride up much more enjoyable than the descent, so Route B turned out to be ideal. Which way should I go? When you exit the escalator into the park, turn right. The route is a loop, so you'll still end up back where you started. But if you go right, you'll find the most interesting observation decks in the first half of the walk. I found this option much more interesting. Don't miss the glass path. Entrance to the glass path costs an additional 5 yuan. In my opinion, it's definitely not worth skimping on. It's a small amount for one of the most memorable experiences on the route. When is the best time to arrive? We arrived around 11 a.m. This turned out to be a very good decision: the main flow of tourists had already passed, the lines were noticeably shorter, and we had time to see everything without rushing. What to bring? ✔️ Comfortable shoes; ✔️ Water; ✔️ Light snack; ✔️ A fan or small fan in summer; ✔️ A small tripod, if you like photography. If I came here again, I would choose spring or fall. It's very beautiful in summer, but the heat and humidity are quite intense. ⭐ Personally verified 📍 Is it worth the trip? - 100% yes. ⏳ How much time should I allocate? - A full day. 🚶 Physical fitness - Moderate. 💛💛💛 The yellow-themed shop, Busy For You 💛💛💛 A paradise for snack lovers! This is the snack shop in China that I wanted to visit the most. There is quite a wide variety of snacks to choose from. But the thing I wanted to buy the most was the milk cheese jujubes. They are super popular in Thailand, and my coworkers love them too. The jujubes are huge, taste fresh, and the packaging is excellent. They come in individual packets, looking premium and clean, one piece per packet. I also bought several other snacks to try out. #Furong #TimeForYourself Their biggest mistake is coming here for just a couple of hours. When I was planning my route through China, almost everyone advised stopping in Furong, seeing the waterfall, and then moving on. Now, having been here myself, I can confidently say: if possible, definitely stay at least one night. It's in the evening that Furong transforms into a true fairytale. By the way, many people think it's an artificial tourist village. This isn't true. Furong's history spans over 2,000 years. Yes, many buildings have been restored, but the town itself is genuine, with a rich history and culture. The main attraction is the enormous waterfall that runs right through the ancient town. And the most unusual thing is that you can walk along a special trail right behind the wall of falling water. Don't miss this opportunity! You'll get a little wet, but you'll feel the full power of the waterfall in a completely different way. My Tips ✔️ Stay here overnight. It's after sunset that Furong becomes truly magical. ✔️ Don't overpay for a room with a waterfall view. Yes, these hotels are beautiful, but they're significantly more expensive. In the evening, you'll be exploring the city anyway, not staying in your room. ✔️ Book a table at a restaurant for around 7:00 PM. While you're eating, it will start to get dark, the lights will come on, and you'll be treated to one of the most beautiful views I've seen in China. ✔️ Be sure to stroll through the ancient streets. Take your time, peek into the alleys, observe the lives of the locals, and soak up the atmosphere. ✔️ Don't miss the evening folk dance show. For me, it was one of the highlights of Furong. ✔️ And be sure to go behind the waterfall. Yes, you'll get splashed. In this article, I'll tell you about this super photogenic spot. This spot is located on the roof of the "New 100 Store" shopping mall, which is directly across from the cathedral, and offers stunning views of the old Daoli district and the cathedral. But beyond that, there are incredibly beautiful decorations, and that's because the rooftop access is part of the "Russian Fairy Tale Museum" museum, or, as you can find on TripCom, "Russian Fairy Tale Museum." In this museum, you can try on a variety of beautiful men's and women's costumes (the museum's clothing is divided into two main types: Russian fairytale princess dresses and retro palace-style costumes), walk around the museum's locations taking some great photos, and finally, head to the rooftop, where you'll find some truly beautiful decorations and a view of St. Sophia Cathedral. 🆘Information about the museum and how to get there: 🧭To get to the museum, enter the shopping center located directly across from the cathedral's main entrance on Toulonjie Street (透笼街) and go up to the top floor. ⏰Museum opening hours: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM; admission until 8:30 PM. 💰Entrance is charged at around 40 yuan. If you want to feel like a fairy tale character and take great photos, you'll have to pay an extra 40 yuan for costume try-ons. Midsummer brings a different rhythm to Huishan Ancient Town. This summer, that dream finally came true on the spectacular trail through Changping Valley —a journey of 22 kilometres, completed in around 8 hours, surrounded by some of western Sichuan's most breathtaking alpine scenery. Although there were moments of uncertainty before setting off, with horse riding kept as a backup plan, the hike unfolded smoothly from beginning to end. Every stop for photographs was well worth it, and the return shuttle was comfortably caught before the day's end. Along the route, the majestic Yaomei Peak remained a constant companion, rising above the valley with snow-covered elegance. The powerful Chongchongjiao Waterfall rewarded the climb with its refreshing cascade, while the striking Jiarongdu Waterfall tumbled nearly 200 metres through a dramatic limestone gorge, its mineral-rich waters colouring the rocks with distinctive reddish hues, earning it the name "Red Dragon Waterfall." Further ahead, the tranquil Xiagan Haizi reflected the surrounding mountains, while Pomiu Peak stood proudly above the valley. You probably associate the Great Wall of China with Beijing, but with it stretching over 20,000 km the Overhanging Great Wall exists! It is part of the Ming Dynasty era of the Great Wall! 🚶♀️The walk is a steep hike up but it is manageable! On our tour group we had a fit 85 year old man hike up so if you're reading this you can totally do it! No railing going up so you do need to be careful, I used my hands to climb parts of stairs as a precaution! 💥 We heard multiple nuclear sounding bombs as we walked up too which added to the experience as this part of the great wall was a defence area. In 1539 AD the military defence was strengthened in Jiayuguan. Two sections of the Great Wall were built along the north and south ridges of Heishanshi Gorge during the Ming Dynasty. It took 2 years to build and in 1987 it was reconstructed. 💯 Beautiful views once you get to the top with a nice breeze! With tickets only being 21 yuan (approx $3.10 USD / $5.40 NZD) it is certainly worth the visit if you're travelling in the Gansu Province or travelling one of the silk road routes in China! My biggest mistake on my first trip to Guiyang? I thought it would be an easy city to explore on foot, so I packed shoes that looked good instead of shoes that felt good. I quickly realized Guiyang is full of hills, slopes, staircases, and uphill walks. By the end of the first day, my feet were begging for mercy! 😅 Another surprise? You won’t see many shared bicycles like in other Chinese cities because of the hilly terrain. Some of the best local eateries are also tucked away inside residential neighbourhoods where cars have limited access, so walking is often the only way to find those hidden gems. If I could do it again, I would prevent my first timer mistakes, I’d bring my most comfortable walking shoes without a second thought.
