Edinburgh Carlton Hill goes east along Princes Street to the end, and comes to the lush Carlton Hill. Standing on the top of the hill, Edinburgh Castle stands tall, guarding the quiet town, and the scenery is very beautiful. Looking east, you can see the blue Atlantic Ocean and the white sails on Forth Bay. When the wind is beautiful, locals can always come to Carlton Mountain in droves, picnicking and sunbathing on the lawn. There are two monuments on Carlton Hill, a national monument built in 1822 to commemorate the deaths of the Napoleonic Wars. But the monument is not complete, with only a row of huge columns supporting the beams. Works are said to have been interrupted by budget overdrafts. Another is the Nelson Monument, built in honor of Admiral Nelson. Every day at 1pm, when the guns are fired, the small ball at the spire of the Nelson Monument falls. There is also a striking dome building on Carlton Hill, the Edinburgh City Observatory.
