After taking territory around Lille in 1667, the French built the Citadelle Lille fortress west of the city. The building adopts a classic star-shaped defense structure to coordinate with each other when attacked. Inside the old city wall is a park. Surrounded by canals. It is about 20 minutes walk from the train station.
