The Independence Memorial Hall was built in 1948 to commemorate Sri Lanka's separation from British colonial rule. In front of the Memorial Hall stands a statue of Sri Lanka's father. Sri Lanka used to be known as the Lion Kingdom in ancient times, so many things in this country, including the national flag, are designed with lions. There are many stone lions carved around this memorial hall, which have local characteristics. The Independent Memorial Hall is located in the city centre of Colombo, close to the Lotus Art Center built by China. You can take some Chinese stamps with you when you go. Some people here are willing to exchange Chinese stamps.
