位于湖南张家界市永定城区以南，距市中心仅4公里。相传曾有人看到仙女在溪涧中淋浴梳妆，故称仙人溪，又名仙女溪。溪涧分布着200余种树木，180多种动物，森林覆盖率达98%左右，空气中的芬多精特别丰富，具有杀菌作用，对治疗疾病有良好的效用，是进行"森林浴"的好去处。景区内步移景换，形成了三大瀑布(银河瀑布、三叠瀑布、仙女瀑布)，四大深潭(玉女潭、摄身潭、双潭映月、纤夫潭)、巴人岩屋、猿猴自然保护区等多处景点，以峰险、石怪、洞异、瀑秀、潭碧、雾多、林茂七绝名震遐迩。清代诗人易顺鼎曾描绘曰:仰听清猿啼，俯视游鳞漾。浮岚异彩色，怪石多形象。碧树绵冬春，朱华历弦望。垂藤尽倒生，飞瀑不相让。仙人溪四周群山环抱，山水秀丽。整个仙人溪景观纵深较长，越往里走，越能感受到它的独特神秘。特别是雨后的仙人溪，雾气迷蒙，山水隐现，游人行走期间如临仙界。
