Ulanhada Volcanic Geopark
The landscape of the Ulanhada volcanic cluster resembles an alien world, with dark volcanic cones rising abruptly from the vast grasslands, creating a striking visual contrast. The most representative volcano, No. 3, has a walking trail; from the summit, one can overlook the deep crater and lava remnants, with the distant, rolling grasslands blending with the azure sky, exuding a primal power amidst the desolation. Volcano No. 5 has the most intact form, its cone covered in green grass interspersed with black volcanic rock, gleaming with a golden-red luster under the setting sun. The exposed sections of Volcano No. 6, after being mined, reveal alternating layers of red and black rock, resembling a torn wound in the earth; tourists often collect porous volcanic rocks here. The wind-eroded rock columns and scattered basalt blocks further enhance the desolate and mysterious atmosphere. This place is not only a geographical textbook example but also a perfect location for filming space epics.
Huitengxile Grassland
The Huitengxile Grassland showcases the quintessential alpine meadow beauty: rolling green meadows stretch to the horizon, dotted with white yurts and herds of cattle and sheep. In summer, wildflowers abound, weaving a vibrant carpet of pale purple irises, golden nasturtiums, and snow-white peonies. Massive windmills tower over the grasslands, their blades spinning leisurely beneath the azure sky, a wondrous symbiosis of modern technology and natural beauty. Deep within the Huanghuagou Gorge, streams wind between steep cliffs, amidst birch forests and shrubs, evoking a Jiangnan landscape beyond the Great Wall. At night, smoke curls from yurts, the starry sky shimmers like diamonds, and the grassland, illuminated by campfires, becomes even more vast and tranquil. This place is both a summer retreat and a poetic epitome of nomadic culture.
