Kings Canyon Carpark Day Tour
Departure time (resort transfer): 5:30 AM from April to September | 4:30 AM from October to March
Duration of visit: Approximately 13 hours
Departing from the resort, head to Kings Canyon Carpark with a stop at Kings Creek Station along the way, where you can purchase hot drinks or breakfast at your own expense to prepare for the Kings Canyon hike. Upon arrival at Watarrka National Park, where Kings Canyon is located, begin your hiking adventure through the canyon. Along the ridge, you'll admire steep cliffs, deep gorges, and winding staircases before descending to the desert oasis known as the Garden of Eden. Then, return via the opposite side of the canyon. The entire journey takes 3.5 to 4 hours. Alternatively, you may opt for the more relaxed creek bed walk, exploring the lush canyon floor (round-trip approximately 1 hour). Afterwards, enjoy lunch (at your own expense) at Kings Creek Station before returning to Uluru. En route, stop at the Mt. Conner lookout to view the mountain or climb the nearby dunes for a distant glimpse of Lake Amadeus salt lake. Finally, return to Ayers Rock Resort.
Special Note: From November to March, if the temperature at Kings Canyon Carpark reaches 36 degrees, Watarrka National Park will close the northern shore of Kings Canyon Carpark for visitor safety. Only the southern shore remains open, where visitors can participate in hiking activities with a round-trip duration of approximately 2 hrs.
Travel Tips: Bring drinking water, a warm jacket (for winter), comfortable shoes, a fly net, sunglasses, a sun hat, and sunscreen.
Fitness requirements: Individuals with "three highs" (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia) or physical discomfort are advised to carefully consider. Intermediate-Advanced level requires completing approximately 3 hrs of ridge hiking; Beginner level requires completing riverbed hiking.
