Itinerary
Our journey begins at Kyoto Station at 9:30 A.M., where we head north toward the forested mountains on the edge of the city. Traveling by public transportation and on foot, we make our way through a peaceful residential area into the scenic countryside of northern Kyoto—an area known for its tranquil atmosphere and natural beauty.

Our first destination is Kurama, a mountain village steeped in legend and spiritual energy. We visit Kurama-dera, a historic temple perched high on the slopes of Mount Kurama. The temple offers sweeping views, ancient guardian statues, and a sacred site where pilgrims have left locks of hair as offerings for centuries. This mountain is also closely connected to Reiki healing practices and is said to be a place of powerful spiritual energy.

From there, we begin a beautiful mountain hike through towering cedar forests and hidden shrines. The trail is rugged in places, with steep stairs and uneven paths, but your guide will lead the way at a comfortable pace while sharing fascinating stories and local legends tied to this mystical landscape.

We descend into the quiet village of Kibune, home to Kifune Shrine—a revered sanctuary dedicated to the goddess of water. Famous for its iconic red lantern-lined staircase and serene setting, this shrine offers a truly photogenic and peaceful experience. Here, you'll have the chance to draw a special omikuji (fortune paper) that reveals your fortune when dipped into the shrine’s sacred spring water.

After our visit, we make our way back to Kyoto using local trains, concluding a day full of nature, folklore, and discovery. This tour involves plenty of walking and the use of public transportation—perfect for travelers who want to explore Kyoto’s quieter, lesser-known side on foot and like a local.
