We booked a group tour through Ctrip, which was very convenient. The meeting point was right outside one of the Nagoya Station exits. The guide took attendance and assigned seats. He gave a brief overview of the attractions and distributed a map. I'd heard colleagues talk about Shirakawa-go Gassho Village as being beautiful, especially in winter after the snow. Although we visited on October 7th, the scenery was still stunning. I hadn't expected such a beautiful village to exist deep in the mountains. It wasn't crowded, and we all had a wonderful time strolling through the beautiful village.

What you need: A cell phone with a working SIM card. How to use: At the Takayama Bus Center, line up directly at the gate for Shirakawago. When the staff member walks around to check your ticket, click on the voucher, then click the link to show it. When boarding begins, click “Use” on the screen that appears after clicking the link, then click “Confirm” and board the bus. The line to buy tickets at the bus center is very long, but being able to line up right away is very useful.

information explained how many things in Japanese society, including cooking, related to buddhism philosoohy. The cooking class was clear and easy to follow and fun to learn the modern way of shaping the triangle musubi. The miso soup recipe was interesting too because both white and red miso was used in the shiitake/kombu dashi.
