Dongdaihe Scenic Area is located in Suizhong County, Huludao City, at the southwestern tip of Liaoning, adjacent to Shanhaiguan in Qinhuangdao. It covers Wanjia Town and its surrounding coastal villages, beaches, and historical sites, forming a seaside resort area along the Bohai Sea. Compared with the earlier-developed Beidaihe and Nandaihe, this area started later and still retains a relatively pristine fishing village atmosphere. The long coastline features open beaches, attracting many tourists from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to come for self-drive vacations. Dongdaihe Scenic Areafeatures Zhimao Bay as a representative seaside area, which was originally a quiet little fishing village. The beach here has a gentle slope and shallow water, with an open sea view. Multiple seaside bathing beaches line the coast, offering lively water activities such as speedboats and jet skis. After the tide goes out, grabbing a small bucket for clam digging, catching crabs, and picking up seashells is a classic family-friendly activity. After getting tired, having a seafood meal at a local fishing guesthouse is the best way to experience the leisurely vacation pace here. In addition to the seaside, this area also hides a rich history of coastal heritage. The Ten-thousand Buddhas Temple, originally built in the Liao Dynasty, is located by the sea in Zhimao Bay. The surrounding area also features historical sites such as the Jiumenmen Water Great Wall Scenic Area, Qiansuo Ancient City, Suizhong Leaning Tower, and the Twin Towers, Miaofeng Temple, which can be visited together at a leisurely pace.Suizhong · 52 km from downtown

Located in the suburb of Suizhong County and at the junction of Liaoning and Hebei Provinces, the Nine-Gate Water Great Wall was built in the Northern Qi Dynasty and later expanded in 1381. It is connected to the Great Wall in the direction of Shanhaiguan Pass in the south and extends northward to the Jiujiang River where a 100-meter (328-feet) cross-river bridge stands. It was named after the nine water drainage gates under the city bridge. Here, you can take the city bridge to visit this unique ancient military fortress and enter the Great Wall tunnel to explore the military facilities built in the cave. You can also climb the ruins of the Great Wall on the ridge to look around; the scenery of the mountains, city walls and beacon towers is majestic.Suizhong · 55.3 km from downtown

Zhimao Bay is located in Wanjia Town, Suizhong County, in the western part of Liaoning Province. It sits on the coast of the Bohai Sea, adjacent to Shanhaiguan. Many travelers from nearby cities choose to drive here for the weekend, especially those from Beijing. As an undeveloped, pristine beach, it is quieter and less crowded than other more established beaches. The environment is beautiful, and the local customs are simple and authentic. The beach here is clean, gentle, and soft underfoot. The water is crystal clear. More than 200 m from the shore, three massive reefs stand in the sea; this is one of the more famous attractions in Zhimao Bay—the Tomb of Meng Jiangnu, which folklore says is where Meng Jiangnu threw herself into the sea.Suizhong · 50.4 km from downtown

The ancient city of Qiansuo is located 42 kilometers west of Suizhong County. It was built in the third year of Xuande in the Ming Dynasty (1428). The city is basically square, with a length of 510 meters from east to west, a width of 502 meters from north to south, and a wall height of 10 meters. The city gates were originally built with Luocheng, and now only the West Monroe city remains. Qiansuocheng is the first city outside the customs. When the Ming and Qing Dynasties were at war, the Ming Dynasty sent the general troops to guard here. In the Ming Dynasty, 125 Suocheng were built outside the customs, and the former city is the only one that is relatively well preserved. Qiansuo Ancient City is an ancient city located in a special geographical location in the link area of the Western Liaoning Corridor. It not only reflects the connotation of local historical science and culture, but also reflects the close historical, military, economic and cultural exchanges between northern and southern China. The ancient city of Qiansuo is a typical representative of the city in the Ming Dynasty. It has witnessed the military activities in the western Liaoning area in the middle and late Ming Dynasty in detail, and has a very high historical research value.Suizhong · 42.2 km from downtown

The Jieshi Qin-Han Dynasty Site Group is located on the coast of Zhimao Bay, Wanjia Town, Suizhong County, Huludao City. The site group is 4 kilometers long from north to south, 3.5 kilometers from east to west along the coast, and covers an area of 14 square kilometers, including six large palace sites, distributed in Stone Stele Land, Heishantou, Wazidi, Jinsitun, Hongshilazi and Zhoujia Nanshan. The Jieshi Palace site is the larger of the six sites. It has been verified as the place where the first emperor Qin Shihuang was stationed in the east of Jieshi, and it is the main building of the entire site group. Its overall layout is rectangular, 500 meters long from north to south, 300 meters wide from east to west, and covers an area of 150,000 square meters. A rammed earth wall is built around, the base of the wall is 2.8 meters wide, and the inner and outer walls are steep. The Jie Palace was built on a tall rammed earth platform on the ground of the stele. The three-dimensional building of the site is close to the coastline. The remaining rammed earth platform is 8 meters high, the side of the foundation is 40 meters long, and half of it is sunk into the ground. It is a magnificent multi-level building with high platforms. The two wings of the three-dimensional building have turrets, and there are groups of buildings behind them. Except for Xianyang, the capital of Qin, and Chang'an, the capital of Han, it is rare to see such a large and orderly layout of palace buildings. The simple tiles used in the buildings unearthed here have a large semi-circular head and high-floating patterns on the face, with a diameter of 54 cm, a tile height of 37 cm, and a total length of 68 cm. Rare in the country. The large and small rooms in the palace two thousand years ago, the drainage system, the wells for storing food, etc., are clearly visible.Suizhong · 52.1 km from downtown

The coastal scenery is beautiful, and the beach sand is quite fine. It had just rained the day we went, but it wasn't sunny yet, so it felt foggy. However, there was a lot of trash on the beach, making the water already murky, and the trash made going in the water less appealing. Parking is convenient and is charged per use, 10 yuan per trip.

It gets quite crowded on summer weekends. Park your car at the visitor center and take the shuttle bus to the East Gate. Yipianshi Pass is the main attraction. The Great Wall on one side has been restored, and you can climb the watchtower for a panoramic view.

What should you eat in Dongdaihe this season? No need to think, of course it's seafood! All kinds of fresh seafood, mountain and sea delicacies, are simply delicious! The seafood is now the freshest and most plump. You can taste the most authentic ingredients in any restaurant. The taste is simply incomparable to the seafood restaurants in Beijing.

Wanfo Zen Temple is located at the seaside of Dongdaihe. It is a very quiet small temple with no obvious road signs. It is at the end of a small road, but it is not difficult to find it by following the navigation. There is no charge to enter the temple. There are the main hall and several side halls in the temple, where Guanyin Bodhisattva is enshrined. There is a Guanyin statue on the seaside, which is pure white, solemn and compassionate.
