The Lufeng World Dinosaur Valley is a large-scale, dinosaur-themed cultural tourism park. It is located on Konglong (Dinosaur) Mountain in Chuanjie Township's Ana Village within Chuxiong Prefecture's Lufeng County. This is a place where the kingdom of dinosaurs, the world of the Jurassic age and the rise and fall of the planet's amazing creatures can be experienced. Dinosaur Valley is divided into two major areas: the “Dinosaur Dig Scientific Research Area” and the “Jurassic World Tourist Area.” The Dinosaur Dig has more than 60 Lufengosaurus skeletons, which have been pieced together by teams of paleontologists. It is very spectacular. In the tourist area, visitors can learn a great deal about the life dinosaurs led hundreds of millions of years ago. There are a large number of artificially constructed waterfalls, rivers, lakes and a vast number of Jurassic-era plants.Lufeng · 34.6 km from Yimen

Stone Forest Scenic Area

The Stone Forest Scenic Area is located in Shilin County, Kunming, and is one of the key attractions in the city. This scenic area showcases typical karst landforms, featuring stone peaks, pinnacles, sinkholes, and underground rivers. The towering rock formations take on various shapes—sword-like, pagoda-like, mushroom-like, and more—creating a breathtaking and fantastical landscape. The Stone Forest Scenic Area is divided into several widely spaced sections, with the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest attractions at its core. The Naigu Stone Forest is located approx. 12 km north of the main attractions, while the Dadie Waterfall scenic area sits approx. 29 km southwest. The Changhu Lake area is positioned 26 km southeast of the main site. When visitors refer to touring the Stone Forest, they typically mean exploring the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest sections. The Greater and Lesser Shilin are located in the same area. After purchasing tickets at the main entrance and walking along the path for 20 minutes, you'll find the smaller and more gently sloped Lesser Shilin Scenic Area on your left. Amidst the dense cluster of peaks stands the famous Ashima Stone, where the majestic karst formations resemble a graceful Yi ethnic maiden named Ashima, seemingly waving to visitors—a favorite photo spot for travelers. Beyond the striking Ashima, the Lesser Shilin area features other captivating views like the Steed and Pillar Supporting the Sky, each with unique shapes. This is where your imagination is put to the test. If you find your imagination lacking, we recommend hiring a guide who can offer fresh perspectives on these remarkable formations. As you drive leisurely along the highway, you'll encounter a series of remarkable rock formations lining the roadside—the Tang Monk Stone, Stone Prison, Phoenix Combing Its Wings, and Lingzhi Mushroom Rock—each vividly lifelike and exquisitely crafted by nature's artistry, presenting their unique postures to showcase Earth's wondrous creations. Strolling along the pathway, you'll unexpectedly arrive at the Great Stone Forest Scenic Area. After marveling at wonders like "Two Birds Sharing Food," "Rhinoceros Gazing at the Moon," "Lotus Peak," "Shilin Grand View," and "Stone Screen," you might feel slightly fatigued. Take a peaceful break at Lion Pavilion while admiring the inverted peaks reflected in Lion Pool across the way. After prolonged exposure to these karst formations, visual fatigue may set in—making it the perfect moment to shift perspectives. Board a cruise on Shilin Lake, where mountain vistas and water scenery converge into one breathtaking panorama, dissolving all stress and worries. If you prefer not to walk, electric carts driven by Yi ethnic women shuttle between attractions and stop upon request. You can still marvel at the wonders of the Stone Forest Scenic Area, and some friendly drivers may even share interesting local anecdotes along the way. Naigu Stone Forest, also known as New Stone Forest or Mozhai Stone Forest, is located 13 km north of the Stone Forest Scenic Area. It features a landscape composed of stone formations, Baiyun Lake, Shifeng Mountain, and Yougu Xianpu Waterfall. Compared to the Stone Forest Scenic Area, this site offers a distinct style. The towering gray-black stone pillars here are densely packed, resembling castles, towers, and mushrooms. The rugged, primitive rock formations surge skyward like waves, creating a majestic atmosphere. Walking through these dark peaks feels like stepping into a primeval world.China · Shilin

Yunnan Provincial Museum

The Yunnan Provincial Museum is a comprehensive museum showcasing Yunnan's history and ethnic culture, housing over 200,000 cultural relics (sets), with strengths in ancient Dian Kingdom bronzeware, Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom Buddhist statues, and historical calligraphy and paintings. The building itself is distinctive: its reddish-brown exterior is composed of irregular stone prism shapes, resembling a stone forest rising from the ground, making it memorable even before entering the exhibition halls. The permanent exhibition follows a chronological sequence, with six themed halls—"Ancient Yunnan," "Dawn of civilization," "Dominance in southern China," "Land of fragrant Buddhism," "Frontier expansion and defense," and "A century of upheaval"—taking visitors from prehistoric times to the modern era, offering a condensed overview of Yunnan's history. Located in a multi-ethnic border region, the artifacts here differ markedly from those in inland museums: bronzeware depicts vivid scenes of animal combat, rituals, and warfare, while the Dian Kingdom's unique shell containers resemble lidded bronze "piggy banks." The Buddhist statues bear the distinct regional style of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms, warranting closer attention. The museum's crown jewels deserve dedicated viewing time: the Warring States period bronze ox-tiger table, unearthed from the Lijiashan tombs in Jiangchuan, features a small ox hidden beneath a large ox and a fierce tiger biting the ox's tail, earning the saying "In the north, there's the galloping horse treading on a flying swallow; in the south, there's the ox-tiger bronze table." The Dali Kingdom gilded Avalokitesvara statue with silver halo from the Qianxun Pagoda of Chongsheng Temple in Dali has a unique golden form. Other treasures include Song Dynasty Guo Xi's "Travelers among mountains and streams," Yuan Dynasty Huang Gongwang's "Visiting Dai in Shanxi," and the Ming Dynasty gem-inlaid golden crown. After the visit, you can stop by the nearby Guandu ancient town, making it possible to explore both sites in a day.Kunming · 67.2 km from Yimen

The Kunming Tourist Cableway (formerly the Dianchi Xishan Cableway) uses the world's most advanced cableway equipment produced in France and Italy. Half of its length spans over the surface of Dianchi Lake, making it a rare cableway that crosses both water and mountains. Riding the cableway is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kunming. You can take the cable car at No. 16 Hubin Road (near the Dragon King Temple). Going up, it is like walking into a wonderful viewing corridor, where you can take in the scenery of Dianchi Lake and take photos of Dianchi Lake from a wide angle. Dianchi Lake is at your feet, and the majestic Xishan Mountain is above your head. The cable car also allows tourists to visit Dianchi Lake and Xishan Scenic Area conveniently.Kunming · 58.9 km from Yimen

The scenery depends on the season; otherwise, it's just like going to a rural market. There's nothing to do. There's a rafting option, but they just collect money.

It's incredibly impressive. It's the first time I've seen so many fossil specimens, all so well-preserved. Even though only a portion has been unearthed, it's still breathtaking and amazing. It's clear this canyon was once the habitat of the Lufengosaurus. Imagine this place, lush with grass and abundant water, where a large herd lived leisurely, only to be struck by a cataclysmic disaster the next second, wiping out thousands of lives in an instant.

Location: Haigeng Park/No. 16 Hubin Road ↔ Xishan Longmen (West Mountain Dragon Gate), not near the old street, you have to go to the Dianchi Lake area. Experience: Crossing the lake + climbing the mountain, about 20 minutes one way, views of Dianchi Lake, Sleeping Beauty Mountain, and city scenery, great for taking photos. Ticket Price: One way about 59-60 RMB, round trip about 98-100 RMB. Advantages: Easy for lazy people to climb West Mountain, no climbing required, unique views; seagulls in winter. Disadvantages: Stops during strong winds/thunderstorms; long queues during peak season; separate ticket/walking required for Longmen after climbing the mountain; don't confuse with the "Xishan Longmen Cableway". Conclusion: First time in Kunming, taking the Dianchi-Xishan route → worth it; if just exploring the old street → not worth a special trip.

It was more fun than I expected! There weren't many people, and it was much quieter than those commercialized old towns. Although they gathered all sorts of ethnic architectural features together, making it seem like a tourist trap, the performers were incredibly dedicated. I think it's perfect for seniors because the whole trip isn't tiring, and you can learn about many different cultures in one place. I thought it was wonderful, and the performances were really good!

I feel like I've only explored less than 5% of the Xishan Scenic Area, haha. There are definitely some special forces members in Kunming's Xishan Scenic Area! I had to catch the high-speed train to Dali this afternoon, otherwise I could have spent more time exploring. While taking the bus and sightseeing vehicle up the mountain, there were also many hiking routes. Seeing many signs and steps, it seems there are many other things to explore and experience besides Longmen. There was a senior citizen tour group from Guangdong, and their guide was saying, "Climbing Longmen will increase your worth a hundredfold!" Well, that strengthened my resolve to climb it! It definitely lived up to expectations. Although the climb wasn't long or too tiring, some steps were very steep, with angles of over 60 degrees. And the various caves and temples gave one the feeling that there were immortals and hermits hidden in the mountains—very mysterious and awe-inspiring. There weren't many people there early in the morning. It wasn't until I took the cable car down that I noticed a few people boarding, and very few people were going down. Finally, I hope this trip will really double my wealth! Everything goes smoothly, haha!

My visit to the Yunnan Provincial Museum was made incredibly fortunate by the professional and gentle guidance of Ms. Cui. The entire experience was excellent, and I gained a great deal. I wholeheartedly recommend her! Ms. Cui possesses a solid and profound knowledge base. Her explanations are logically clear and progressively structured, avoiding dry and tedious rote memorization. Instead, she seamlessly connects Yunnan's ancient Dian civilization, the Nanzhao and Dali kingdoms, and its modern ethnic history, weaving scattered artifacts into a vibrant tapestry of millennia-old cultural heritage. Regarding the museum's prized artifacts, such as the Bronze Ox and Tiger Case, the Four-Ox Gilded Knight Shell Container, and the Garuda, Ms. Cui meticulously dissected the artifacts' shapes, craftsmanship details, and historical significance, supplementing the content with numerous interesting anecdotes and cultural backgrounds beyond the textbook. The originally static and impersonal artifacts became warm and engaging under her vivid narration, allowing us to truly understand the unique charm of the ancient Dian culture and the brilliant heritage of Southwest China's civilization. Ms. Cui's pacing was perfect, maintaining an appropriate pace and making the explanations easy to understand, catering to the comprehension levels of different visitors. Throughout the visit, she was patient and gentle, proactively answering questions with a kind and responsible attitude. Her passion and sincerity for cultural heritage work were palpable. What was initially a cursory tour became incredibly meaningful thanks to Ms. Cui's professional explanations. We not only gained a deeper understanding of Yunnan's millennia-long history but also immersed ourselves in the unique cultural heritage of the region. An excellent guided tour is the key to unlocking history. Many thanks to Ms. Cui!

It's definitely worth taking children and the elderly, as it saves a lot of energy. The Haigeng Dam and the Ethnic Village are nearby. I was lucky to go in mid-to-late October, and the first flocks of seagulls had already arrived. Apparently, they arrived half a month earlier than usual. Even though it was just the first flock, I felt it was already very beautiful.

It's nice for taking photos and checking in, but not so much for leisurely sightseeing. A few of the exhibition halls were quite nice. What I don't understand is that the shuttle bus is still a gasoline-powered vehicle, and there was a really unpleasant smell in the back.
