Highlights: Gantang Lake is located in the urban area of Jiujiang City and is a natural lake. Gantang Lake, known as "Jingyang Lake" in ancient times, covers an area of about 800,000 square meters and has an average water depth of 1.4 meters. To prevent the backflow of the Yangtze River during the flood season and endanger Jiujiang City, a 60-meter long embankment was built in the lake, and a gate was set up to control the water level. The long embankment divided the lake into two halves. Tang Lake, Gantang Lake was the naval base of Soochow during the Three Kingdoms period. Yanshui Pavilion: On the small island in the center of Gantang Lake, there used to be the spot of the famous Eastern Wu general Zhou Yu. Later, in the 11th to 13th years of Tang Yuanhe (816-818), the famous poet Bai Juyi was demoted to Jiangzhou Sima. In Zhou Yudian, a pavilion was built on the original site of Jiangtai, and it was named "Dipping Moon Pavilion" because of the famous sentence in "Pipa Xing", "Farewell to the vast river and soaking in the moon". During the Northern Song Dynasty, when Zhou Shou, the son of the famous Neo-Confucianist Zhou Dunyi, came to Jiujiang to guard his father's tomb, he built a pavilion on the embankment of Gantang Lake. Both the Baptist Pavilion and the Yanshui Pavilion were abandoned. In the 21st year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1593), Huang Tengchun, the governor of Jiujiang, rebuilt the Yanshui Pavilion at the former site of the Baptist Pavilion. After that, the Yanshui Pavilion was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt until the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. To form a scale, people used to turn the buildings on the island into smoke and water pavilions. The Yanshui Pavilion building complex is divided into three roads: the left, the middle and the right. The left road is Cui Zhaoxuan, Tingyu Xuan, Yiting Pavilion, etc., the right road is Diyue Pavilion and Ship Hall, and the middle road is Yanshui Pavilion, Chunyang Hall, Wuxian Pavilion and Guanyin Pavilion, the architectural styles on the island are harmonious, fresh and elegant, with couplets and plaques, or narrative paintings, or freehand and lyrical, full of elegance and interest. The Yanshui Pavilion on the middle road of the island has now become a cultural relics showroom in Jiujiang City, with many cultural relics with local characteristics, while the Wuxian Pavilion was built to commemorate Tao Yuanming, Li Bo, Bai Juyi, Zhou Dunyi and Wang Yangming.
