Photos of Roman Theatre of Arles

The ancient theater is an ancient Roman building in the southern French city of Arles, built during the reign of the Roman emperor Augustus at the end of the 1st century BC, shortly after the establishment of the Roman colony. Started between 40 and 30 BC and completed around 12 BC, it was one of the earlier stone theaters built in Rome. The auditorium of the theater is fan-shaped, and now there are only 20 rows left. In its heyday, there were 34 rows of seats, which could accommodate 10,000 spectators at the same time. At that time, the stage was also gorgeous and spectacular. The stone pillars on which the curtains were hung were 20 meters high, but now only two broken pillars less than 10 meters in the middle of the venue remain. The theater has now been used as a venue for national costume festivals, photography exhibitions, film exhibitions and other venues, and various theater festivals and concerts are often held here. Especially on midsummer nights, open-air concerts are often held here, and listening to the performances under the starry sky without barriers is also a special enjoyment.
