Hengshan Reservoir

Hengshan Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located in Taihua Mountains, Yili, southwest of Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, relying on Hengshan Reservoir. Hengshan Reservoir is a large (II) type water conservancy project in the Taihu Lake Basin, with a catchment area of 154.8 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 112 million cubic meters. The construction of the reservoir started in 1958 and was basically completed in September 1969. From October 2001 to April 2004, the reinforcement was carried out to eliminate dangers. It was designed according to the once in 100 years and checked once in 2000, mainly for flood control and water supply. The pivot project mainly includes a homogeneous earth dam with a dam length of 4090 meters, a dam crest elevation of 42.1 meters, a dam height of 24 meters and a dam crest width of 8.1 meters. One three-hole spill gate, hydraulic arc-shaped steel gate, designed with a maximum discharge capacity of 557 cubic meters per second, with a stepped stilling pool and supporting flood discharge channels. The east and west water conveyance culverts are both connected with the water supply pipeline. There are three strange things in Hengshan: the embankment, the green water, and the green mountains. The sunset is amazing. The three-hole spill gate in the middle of the levee can be described as a wonder of the reservoir. It stands tall and proud of all directions. When the flood was released, I saw three water dragons rushing out of the gate, their momentum was like a tide, their sound was like thunder, and they poured straight into the stilling pool. Presenting a seven-color rainbow, as if the rain is just beginning. The reservoir is vast and the water is as bright as a mirror. Throughout the year, clouds and mountains are reflected in it, presenting a series of ink paintings. The water is bright and green, and there are many fish swimming, the big ones are more than one meter long, and the small fish are clustered in groups. Birds often come to play in the water, the osprey that catches fish accurately, the egrets with high feet, the swans that lead their necks, and the flocks of wild ducks. When it takes off, it covers the sky. The mountain was also verdantly green. The dark green pine shadows whirling, and the emerald green bamboo waves are emptied, which complement each other and are fascinating. The nearby mountains are clear, like in front of you, and the distant mountains are hazy, like in the fog, like a three-dimensional painting, like a flowing poem. Each mountain is like a natural sculpture, with different shapes and beautiful colors.
