Guest User: Older hotel that had renovated. The rooms were a good size with kitchen and facilities. The bedroom area was a generous size with a queen and single bed. Mattresses quite soft so if you’re used to a firm bed, you will notice the difference. Abundance of power outlets ( no usb charging), and a 43 inch TV. The bathroom was large, and had been renovated with new appliances but, they had left the old bathroom ceiling which was in a bad way and no ceiling fan so lots of condensation which led to mould spots on the new shower walls. No shower screen, only a curtain and it seemed that the water runoff on the floor was running away from the two drains as it was pouring into the kitchen and onto the carpet in the bedroom area. ( She does use a lot of water but it should have coped). Basically a great hotel for the money and excellent location near the cbd and plenty of good restaurants. Added bonus for us was having free Tesla destination charging which meant driving down from Sydney, we didn’t need to go searching for a charge station.

lonetlove: Midnight Collection was in a central location where amenities is surrounded. You have pub, tram station and walking distance to civic center. The facilities is good enough to have a relax and enjoyable swimming pool and sauna room after a long day. Food wise is pretty tasty, while it may not be free flow in term of buffet style.

Many people think Canberra is just about "a quick visit to Parliament House and then it's over." But if you're coming in September or October, I really want to redeem that notion. Springtime in Canberra is a completely different story—tulips, cherry blossoms, lake views, vast lawns, and finally, a stunning sunset over the entire city. And right now is Floriade 2026! This year, it's being held at Commonwealth Park from September 12th to October 11th, featuring over 1 million flowers, with the main blooming period officially stated as September 18th to October 1st. 🌷 🌷 First Stop|Floriade If it's your first time in Canberra in spring, this is definitely the place to start. The entire Commonwealth Park transforms into a giant garden, with tulips, pansies, and various other flowers carpeting the lawns, and a Ferris wheel in the distance. This year's theme is Feast of Flowers, and in addition to the sea of flowers, it also includes food, gardening, markets, and various activities. Floriade is free to enter during the day, and its opening hours in 2026 are 9:30 am–5:30 pm. I highly recommend not just taking close-up photos of the flowers. Find a slightly higher spot and capture the entire flower field, blue sky, and people all in one shot; the travel experience will be much stronger. 🌸 Second Stop|Nara Peace Park If you happen to visit during peak bloom, this place is truly a surprise. Smooth Stay with Minor Hiccups
My father and I visited Canberra to attend a sporting event and explore the new extension of the War Memorial. For convenience, we prefer interconnecting rooms when traveling. While I usually book through the ALL App, this time I spoke with a lovely woman over the phone who was very helpful and made sure we got the room we needed. During check-in, we found no parking spaces out front, so we used the back carpark. Unfortunately, accessing reception became tricky as we didn’t have a key for the doors. The overall check-in experience was fine. However, my Diamond Loyalty status wasn’t mentioned, which is typically standard, though we did receive a property map and the necessary information. We initially booked a Standard Room but believe we were upgraded to an Executive Room. The room was very spacious, with a modernized bathroom, and the wooden furniture aligned nicely with the hotel’s style. We had breakfast at the hotel all three mornings and dined there twice during our stay. Breakfast on Sunday had several issues, which I addressed directly with the F&B Manager, Troy. However, Monday and Tuesday breakfasts went smoothly, thanks to Phoebe, who kept the buffet and tables well-maintained. Overall, we enjoyed our dinners, as there was a great variety of dishes. The only downside was the chicken & chorizo risotto—it lacked flavor and came off bland. On the other hand, the schnitzels and steaks were cooked perfectly. In conclusion, our stay at Mercure Canberra was very comfortable, and we’d definitely choose to stay here again.

Whenever friends visit Canberra, besides asking where to see kangaroos, another question is always, "Any cafes worth visiting?" If I could only recommend one area, I'd almost always choose Kingston. Compared to the vibrancy of Braddon and the artsy atmosphere of NewActon, Kingston has a more relaxed, lived-in feel. Especially Kingston Foreshore; a stroll along the lake and finding a cafe to sit in makes for a very pleasant morning. This time, I chose Dockside Cafe. I ordered two signature dishes—squid ink seafood pasta and a black truffle cheese sandwich. The squid ink pasta was a pleasant surprise. The sauce was rich but not too salty, the seafood portion was generous, and the umami of the squid ink and the garlic flavor were well-balanced. It wasn't the kind of dish that relied solely on presentation. As for the black truffle cheese sandwich, it's a simple yet foolproof dish. The bread is toasted to a crisp, the cheese melts perfectly, and the black truffle aroma isn't overpowering. Paired with a cup of coffee, it makes for a comfortable brunch. If you're looking for a cafe in Kingston, I have two other recommendations. Early Edition consistently offers high-quality coffee and is a popular breakfast spot for locals. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, Local Press is a good choice; their juices and coffee are also quite good, perfect for a simple meal. If I were to rank them: 🥇 Dockside Cafe – Best view, most breakfast options, fast and consistent service. 🥈 Early Edition – Most famous for its coffee, great for relaxing and chatting. 🥉 Local Press – Less crowded, better for larger gatherings. Cotter Dam in Canberra is a very interesting place to visit. The waterfall of the dam looks more majestic than many natural ones. There are two hiking trails in the dam. One is shorter and you can walk to a lookout to see the dam below. This route has more trees and is very relaxing. There is also a stream. It is called the discovery trail. The other route is five kilometers round trip. There is a small hill. The scenery along the way is good. If it is a sunny day, it will be a bit sunny. You can walk to the top of the mountain to see the dam. It is called the Honyong Walking Track. Of course, it is not a problem to walk both routes. It is not particularly tiring. In addition to the dam itself, there are many small tables for picnics and barbecue grills at the parking lot. There are also facilities for children to play here. There is also a stream next to it. AllenXieAustralian War Memorial
I went there for the Last Post Ceremony (it's free but you still have to book tickets online) and it was quite interesting. The ticket to the ceremony doesn't grant you access to the other parts of the museum but if you have enough time and are interested in Australia's war and conflict history it looked well displayed.The War Memorial is also a great starting point for a hike up to the Mount Ainslie Lookout with a beautiful view over Canberra - especially great during sunset.
