After stopping and wandering for nearly 12 hours, I finally arrived at El Paso on the US-Mexico border.
I booked a hotel in the city center. The surrounding area looked quite safe, though it was a bit quiet on a Sunday night. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant; the portions were huge and filling, and the seasoning was a bit different from what I'm used to, but it was quite tasty.
The next day, I worked remotely for a while before heading out to explore. I found a local restaurant with good reviews. The red and green chili sauces were excellent, and I finished two plates of tortilla chips dipping them in. The main courses were said to be very authentic Mexican 🇲🇽, but they didn't really suit our taste.
In the afternoon, I went back to the city center to stroll through the old town. The row of small shops along the street looked just like the wholesale markets I saw when I was a kid. There was also a fascinating pawn shop; its collection is said to be quite famous and was a real eye-opener.
For dinner, I chose a taco place. The overall style was more American, perfect for a casual drink and meal. The fried mushroom taco and the cheese shrimp taco were delicious. The corn on the cob was topped with way too much seasoning—so sour, spicy, and salty that it gave me a jolt.
