I finally stood on the edge of the White Cliffs in Dunkirk. — traveler post in Kent

I finally stood on the edge of the White Cliffs in Dunkirk.

I went to the UK last National Day and got incredibly lucky with the weather, catching a perfectly sunny day to see the White Cliffs of Dover without any filters. When I watched "Dunkirk," that one line stuck with me: "Seeing the White Cliffs means seeing home." It’s not just a popular photo spot; it’s a sense of belonging deeply ingrained in the British people. Many films and shows have been shot here, including "Atonement," Jay Chou's "What's Wrong" music video, and Harry Potter. A sincere tip: the photos you get at the White Cliffs depend entirely on the weather! It feels completely different on a cloudy day. On a sunny day, the white cliffs against the crystal-blue sea—standing on the edge feeling the sea breeze—it just clears your mind completely. 🚞 My travel route (from London) Train: Take the Southern line train from London to Eastbourne. This line continues a few stops past the train to Gatwick Airport. Conductors usually start checking tickets after the airport, so remember to buy your ticket in advance. Bus: Exit Eastbourne train station and take the 12A, 12X, or 701 bus to East Dean, then start your hike after getting off. Take your time hiking, enjoy the sea views as you walk, and take in the lush green meadows along the way. ⚠️ Please prioritize safety. There are no guardrails on the cliff edge, so don't get too close. It's very windy, so wear non-slip shoes. Standing on the cliff top looking out over the English Channel, I finally understood the emotion from the movie. The sea breeze hit my face, and seeing the pure white cliffs stretching into the sea made all my fatigue vanish instantly.

🌍 10 Places on Earth That Look Like They Belong on Another Planet ✨ — traveler post in Kent

🌍 10 Places on Earth That Look Like They Belong on Another Planet ✨

Sometimes travel photos look so unreal that your first reaction is basically: “There’s no way that actually exists.” 😭 But Earth is ridiculously good at proving us wrong. There are beaches made from black volcanic sand, salt flats that turn into enormous mirrors, mountains covered in rainbow-colored rock, deserts filled with temporary blue lagoons and coastlines that look completely different once winter arrives. If you love destinations that make you stop scrolling and immediately open Google Maps, these are 10 places on Earth that genuinely don’t look real. 1. 🖤 Dyrhólaey & Iceland’s Black-Sand Coast 🇮🇸 Southern Iceland feels like someone turned the saturation down on the entire landscape. Around Dyrhólaey and the nearby black-sand coastline, dark volcanic beaches meet enormous cliffs, sea stacks and powerful North Atlantic waves. The contrast becomes even more dramatic when there’s snow on the surrounding mountains. It’s beautiful, but the ocean here deserves serious respect because waves along Iceland’s south coast can be unpredictable. This is definitely somewhere to admire the scenery without getting too close to the water. 2. 🪞 Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia 🇧🇴 Imagine standing somewhere so flat and enormous that the horizon almost disappears. Salar de Uyuni is already surreal when it’s dry, with white salt stretching seemingly forever, but after a thin layer of water covers the surface, the entire landscape can transform into a giant natural mirror. Sky above. Sky below. Almost no visible horizon between them. It’s one of those places where perspective completely stops making sense, which is exactly why photographs from here can look edited even when they aren’t. 3. 🌈 Zhangye Danxia, China 🇨🇳 Mountains are not supposed to look like this. 😭 The Zhangye Danxia landscape in China is famous for bands of red, orange, yellow and other earthy tones running across its hills. These colors come from layers of rock and sediment shaped over immense periods of geological time. Depending on the weather and light, the landscape can look completely different from one hour to the next. Sunrise and late-afternoon light make the natural colors especially dramatic. 4. 💙 Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil 🇧🇷 From a distance, it looks like an endless desert. Then you notice bright blue and green lagoons sitting between the white dunes. Lençóis Maranhenses is one of those places that makes you question what kind of landscape you’re actually looking at. Seasonal rainwater collects between the dunes, creating temporary lagoons where visitors can swim when conditions are right. Timing matters a lot here because the amount of water changes throughout the year. Catch it during the right season and the scenery is almost impossible to describe without sounding exaggerated. 5. 🤍 Pamukkale, Türkiye 🇹🇷 At first glance, Pamukkale looks like a snowy mountain. Except that white landscape isn’t snow. Mineral-rich thermal water has created bright terraces and pools along the hillside, giving the area its famous cotton-white appearance. Combine that with the ancient ruins of Hierapolis nearby and it becomes one of those places where geology and history somehow exist in the same scene. It’s beautiful from a distance, but walking through parts of it makes the formations feel even stranger. 6. 🪨 The White Cliffs of England 🇬🇧 England’s southern coastline can look surprisingly dramatic, especially around famous chalk-cliff landscapes such as the Seven Sisters and other stretches of the south coast. Brilliant white cliffs drop sharply toward blue-gray water, while green grass runs almost all the way to the edge. On a clear day, it looks almost too perfectly arranged to be natural. The cliffs are also constantly changing through erosion, so staying well back from the edge is important, even if the photo angle is tempting. 7. ❄️ Hokkaido’s Winter Coast, Japan 🇯🇵 Japan isn’t usually the first place people imagine when they think of frozen coastal landscapes, which is exactly what makes northern Hokkaido so surprising. In winter, areas around the Sea of Okhotsk can experience drifting sea ice, creating a coastline that looks more Arctic than Japanese. Combine that with deep snow, quiet coastal towns and Japan’s winter light and suddenly the country feels completely different from Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka. It’s one of the best reminders that Japan’s geography is far more diverse than many first-time visitors realize. 8. 🏜️ Antelope Canyon, USA 🇺🇸 Walk inside and suddenly the rock looks like it’s flowing. Antelope Canyon in Arizona is famous for narrow sandstone passages shaped by water over time. The walls curve in waves, and sunlight entering from above can make the colors shift between orange, red, purple and gold. Photographs almost make the canyon look like a digital artwork, but the shapes are completely natural. Access is managed through guided visits, which is also important because flash flooding can make slot canyons dangerous. 9. 🌳 Socotra, Yemen 🇾🇪 If someone told you Socotra was used as the set for an alien planet, you’d probably believe them. The island is famous for unusual plant life, especially its distinctive dragon’s blood trees, whose wide umbrella-shaped crowns look unlike almost anything else. Add remote beaches, limestone landscapes and endemic species found nowhere else, and the island starts feeling like a separate world. It’s an extraordinary natural environment, though travel logistics and regional security conditions require careful research before planning a visit. 10. ✨ Waitomo Glowworm Caves, New Zealand 🇳🇿 You enter a dark cave, look upward and suddenly it feels like you’re staring at a night sky underground. The famous glowworms create thousands of tiny blue-green points of light across sections of the cave ceiling. The effect is incredibly atmospheric and completely different from the giant landscapes elsewhere on this list. Sometimes the most unreal places on Earth aren’t huge mountains or deserts. They’re hidden underground. What I love about places like these is how completely different they are from one another. Iceland gives you volcanic black beaches. Bolivia gives you a natural mirror stretching toward the horizon. Brazil somehow puts blue lagoons inside massive dunes. China creates mountains that look painted. Japan turns its northern coastline into a winter landscape most tourists never associate with the country. And all of it exists on the same planet. 🌍 That might be one of the best things about travel. You can spend years exploring Earth and still find somewhere that makes you think: “Okay… this cannot be real.” 😭✨ 📌 Save this for the ultimate nature bucket list. Which one would you choose first: Iceland’s black beaches 🖤, Bolivia’s mirror-like salt flats 🪞, Brazil’s desert lagoons 💙 or Japan’s frozen coastline ❄️? #TravelBucketList #NaturalWonders #EarthIsBeautiful #TravelInspiration #BucketListTravel #IcelandTravel #BoliviaTravel #BrazilTravel #JapanTravel #ChinaTravel #NewZealandTravel #NatureTravel #AdventureTravel #BeautifulDestinationss #ExploreTheWorld

🇬🇧 ZONE 02 — SOUTH EAST ENGLAND

Southeast England | Sea, — traveler post in Kent

🇬🇧 ZONE 02 — SOUTH EAST ENGLAND Southeast England | Sea, Castles, Old Towns, and English Villages If you're looking for a more "classic England" experience outside of London, the South East region is a great option. 🏰🌊 It offers historical cities, beautiful coastlines, castles, old villages, and vineyards, especially Kent and Sussex, renowned for their coastal routes and local wines. 📍 Must-Visit Places 👑 Windsor — Old town and Windsor Castle, perfect for those interested in royal history. 🏛️ Oxford — An ancient university city with a classic atmosphere, great for strolling. 🌊 Brighton — A vibrant seaside city with beaches, piers, restaurants, and trendy neighborhoods. ⛪ Canterbury — A historic city with Canterbury Cathedral as a highlight. 🤍 White Cliffs of Dover — White chalk cliffs overlooking the English Channel. Stunning sea views and one of Kent's most iconic landmarks: 🌿 Seven Sisters – Chalk cliffs by the sea perfect for scenic walks and photos. 🏘️ Rye – A small town with old streets, beautiful houses, and a nostalgic English atmosphere. 🏰 Bodiam Castle – A medieval castle surrounded by a moat, giving off a fairytale vibe. 🏰 🍇 Kent & Sussex Vineyards – Another hidden gem of England, with interesting wine production areas that many may not know about. 🚆 How to get there? A major advantage of the South East is its relatively convenient access from London, especially Windsor, Brighton, Canterbury, and other cities along the train lines. However, natural attractions like Seven Sisters or some castles may require bus or car travel. 🚆🚗 🌸 Best time to visit: April–June 🌷 Ideal for city walks and garden visits. July–August ☀️ Great for coastal areas and seaside towns, but usually crowded. September–October 🍂 Cooler weather, perfect for leisurely strolls. And it's a time when the countryside is incredibly beautiful. November–December ✨ Many old towns start to get into the Christmas spirit. 💡 Tip: Don't try to visit the entire South East region in one trip. 😄 We recommend dividing it into Kent / Sussex / Oxfordshire / Windsor and choosing to travel in groups. This will save travel time and allow you to travel without getting too tired. Recommended number of days: Approximately 4–6 days if you want to experience the old towns, coast, and nature without rushing. #SouthEastEngland #TravelEngland #EnglandTravel #UKTravel

Canterbury Cathedral

This is a very worthwhile church to visit. It was built in the Middle Ages, more than 1,000 years ago, and is one of the oldest Christian buildings in the UK. After years of expansion and renovation, it is quite magnificent. Gothic architecture, colorful glass, and the original appearance is preserved intact. It is a pity that there is no Chinese version of the audio guide at present.

Westgate Gardens

Visitors commonly mention its peaceful atmosphere, making it a lovely spot for a stroll or a picnic. The gardens run along the River Stour, providing picturesque water views, especially with the weeping willows and vibrant flower beds. The area is well-maintained, and it's a favorite for both locals and tourists who appreciate nature.

White Cliffs of Dover

It was a lovely trip. There is a good walk to the end of the cliff if you are coming by train. At places, the walk is naturally steep because it's a hill, so I won't prefer going on the hottest days. The best time I would say would be March-April or August.

Dover Castle

The bunker of Dover Castle was the command post of the Dunkirk evacuation, and there was also an attached hospital. The view from the castle is excellent, you can see the sea, the city, and the castle green. There are not so many people, at least there is a lack of commercial facilities.
