The complete guide to having fun in Tokushima Prefecture! Natural wonders, history, culture and food all in one place

Tokushima Prefecture is located in the eastern part of Shikoku, Japan, and has been renowned in Japan for its natural beauty, traditional folk culture and authentic cuisine. Tokushima is a great destination for those who want to get away from the city, close to nature and feel the deep Japanese culture.

🗺️ Route arrangement for four must-see attractions in Tokushima Prefecture:

Day 1 World-class natural wonder – Naruto Whirlpool
The first stop is Naruto Vortex, one of the three largest whirlpools in the world. It is recommended to take the Naruto vortex tide watching boat, directly feel the giant water flow on site, the scene is shocking! If you want to relax, you can also choose to walk the Vortex Road Sea Trail, the viewing platform is located under the Great Naruto Bridge, 45 meters from the sea, with a whirlpool at your feet, which is really exciting. Remember to schedule your trip according to the tide time, the largest vortex generally appears around the time of the big tide day, there will be a whirlpool forecast on the official website.

Day 2 Deep Mountain Secret Exploration - Zugu Valley, Dabu Danger Pass
The next day it is recommended to go straight into the Zu Valley area west of Tokushima. There is one of the three wonder bridges in Japan, the "Iya Vine Bridge". It is made of kudzu and rocks a little when you step on it, but it is safe and secure. Nearby, you can also visit the Dabu Dan Canyon, take a cruise to enjoy the strange rocks and blue-green streams on both sides, and rafting activities in the summer, perfect for those who like outdoor exploration.

Day 3 Cultural Baptism and Art Feast – Awa Dance and Otsuka International Museum of Art
You can't miss the Apo dance when you're back in the city. There is a Apo Dance Festival in August every year, so you can feel the hot atmosphere. If you can come normally, you can go to the Apo Ball Hall to watch the live show all year round and try the traditional dance steps on the spot!
Another feature is the Otsuka International Museum of Art, located in Naruto, which is the largest art gallery of clay painting in Japan. The world's famous paintings have been restored to their original size, and Van Gogh, Monet, and the Sistine Church can be photographed up close.

🍱 Tokushima must-eat selection
The must-try Tokushima ramen is appetizing with its rich pork bone sauce broth with sweet and salty pork slices and raw eggs. As a top Japanese chicken brand, Apo Tai Chicken recommends charcoal grilled or parent-child bowl. The chicken is tender and fragrant. There is also Naruto Kintoki sweet potato, whether it is dim sum or souvenirs!

Tips & Notes
1. The trip is most conveniently connected by Shikoku Express Bus.
2. The official website has all the information on seasonal events and attractions, you can check the arrangements in advance.
3. Some distances around Naruto Whirlpool and Soya Bridge are longer, it is recommended to drive or check the schedule in advance.
4. Near nature attractions pay attention to mosquitoes, sunscreen, wearing hiking shoes more convenient.
5. Attractions such as the Art Gallery and Apo Ball Hall have designated opening hours.
