🟢 SEASON 4 EP.3 | Spotted Lake: A bizarre lake with multicolored circles resembling an alien planet's surface! 🇨🇦👽

Can you believe that… there’s a lake on our planet where, during the summer, its surface gradually transforms into hundreds of green, yellow, blue, and white circles, making it look like a giant palette has been placed on Earth! 😱🌈

This is Spotted Lake, originally known as Kliluk, located near Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦

This lake is one of the most unique landscapes because its shape changes with the seasons!

🟢 Why is the lake filled with multicolored circles?

The secret lies in minerals and water evaporation!

The lake has a very high concentration of dissolved minerals, especially magnesium sulfate, as well as calcium, sodium, and other mineral compounds.

During the hot and dry summer, a large amount of water evaporates from the lake.

The remaining minerals crystallize and form small, separated basin edges, creating numerous circles across the lake's surface!

🎨 And why are each circle a different color?

The color of the basins depends on the mineral composition, the concentration of dissolved substances, microorganisms, and lighting conditions.

🟢 Some basins appear emerald green.

🟡 Some are yellow or orange.

🔵 Some appear blue or indigo.

⚪ The white edges are often caused by salt deposits and mineral crystals.

When viewed from above, these circles look like surreal patterns on the surface of a planet!

😲 But did you know… this lake doesn't have these spots all year round!

During periods of high water levels, the lake may look like a typical lake.

But as summer arrives and evaporation decreases, the mineral basins become more visible.

The circular patterns are most prominent towards the end of summer, depending on the weather and water levels each year.

🌿 Another wonder is… this is a sacred place for the indigenous people!

Lake Kliluk holds significant cultural and spiritual importance for the people. Syilx/Okanagan has a long history of sanctuary.

The local community holds this lake in high regard as a sacred site, and its minerals have a history of being used in traditional healing practices.

The area is now protected to safeguard both its natural and cultural values.

🚫 Can tourists walk on the lake?

Generally, tourists are not permitted to enter the lake area without permission, as it is a sacred and protected area.

Visitors can enjoy the view from designated and permitted roadside viewing areas, without disturbing the natural environment.

✨ The lake, which looks like colorful circles painted on the earth, is actually the work of minerals, sunlight, and natural water evaporation!

Sometimes nature creates such bizarre patterns that they look like unbelievable works of art! 🌍👽

💬 If you saw this spotted lake from above, would you think it was a real lake 🌊 or the surface of an alien planet 🪐?
