This year, I discovered a new route in Guangxi ✅ · Instead of joining the crowds at Detian Waterfall or Mingshi Pastoral, we traveled from Baise to Hechi, enjoying waterfalls, sinkholes, paddleboarding, blue knife fish, miniature horses, mountain BBQs, and more 🌿 · The kids played so much that they fell asleep as soon as we got back to the hotel every night, making the trip easy and stress-free for parents 👶 · 📅 Day 1: Nanning We arrived in Nanning in the afternoon. After checking into the hotel, we headed to Sanjie Liangxiang, a small but charming street area perfect for a leisurely stroll and some snacks. Two hours was just right ✨ · In the evening, we took a cab to the night market. You must try the local "Lao You Fen" noodles! We also bought some pickled fruits. Fruits in Guangxi are incredibly cheap and sweet—mangoes and dragon fruits are a must-buy! · 📅 Day 2: Nanning → Baise We drove along the He-Na Expressway, known as one of "China's Most Beautiful Highways," straight to Tongling Grand Waterfall 🌊 · Unlike typical waterfalls, you can walk deep into the canyon here. The waterfall cascades down from a nearly 100-meter-high cliff, filling the air with refreshing mist. Standing beneath it in summer is a natural way to cool off! · In the afternoon, we visited the Miniature Horse Manor, which features private forest hot springs and vast grasslands 🌿. In the evening, we enjoyed a DIY BBQ with beef and lamb, creating a perfect mountain camping vibe. · 📅 Day 3: Baise → Dashiwai Sinkhole Cluster In the morning, we visited Debao Miniature Horse Kingdom. It's not just about watching the horses—you can interact with them! Groom their manes, clean their stables, feed them, ride them, and even watch an equestrian show. The kids didn’t want to leave. · In the afternoon, we explored the Dashiwai Sinkhole Cluster. Seeing it in person was truly breathtaking! Standing on the glass skywalk, you can overlook the majestic mountains and feel the grandeur of nature 🏞️ · We also enjoyed cliffside afternoon tea, sipping coffee while feeling the mountain breeze and admiring the layered peaks. Every photo was Instagram-worthy ☕️. For dinner, we had a high-altitude hot pot. Eating hot pot in the cool mountain air was a hundred times better than sitting in air conditioning! · 📅 Day 4: Dashiwai Sinkhole Cluster → Hechi Finally, we experienced the activity I was most excited about—5km of family paddleboarding combined with a blue knife fish spectacle 🛶 · Guided by an instructor, we paddled through emerald-clear waters. The water was so transparent you could see the bottom. When we reached the area where blue knife fish gather, schools of fish swam around our paddleboards. A sprinkle of bait brought them swarming in—it was an incredible sight! · This was the most unique and worthwhile experience of our Guangxi trip ✨ · 📅 Day 5: Hechi → Sanmenhai → Nanning We visited Sanmenhai 🚤, taking a boat ride through dark caves before emerging into open waters. On sunny days, sunlight streams through the cave entrance, creating a stunning Tyndall effect that’s pure magic ✨ · Afterward, we wrapped up the trip with a light and relaxing hike, ending the journey on a leisurely note. · The five-day itinerary was perfectly paced—not rushed or tiring, with plenty of activities to enjoy. As someone who's been to Hechi three times and encountered countless disappointments, today I'm sharing all my hard-earned tips, so ladies, just copy my advice! ⚠️ 【Why October and November might be a nightmare】Let me give you a heads-up first Don't rush to accuse me of clickbait; you'll understand after I explain 👇 Pitfall 1: The distances between scenic spots are unbelievably long. Hechi's attractions are scattered across various counties. Driving between Bama, Fengshan, Du'an, Nandan, and Tian'e can easily take 1-2 hours, and the entire route is along winding mountain roads with many curves and steep inclines, leaving you with a sore back. Without a car, waiting and transferring can waste half a day. Pitfall 2: The weather looks cool, but the mountain roads are incredibly slippery. Although October and November are crisp and clear, the temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is significant. After an occasional autumn rain, the mountain roads around Qibainong and the Tiankeng area become extremely slippery. Drivers must strictly control their speed, and overtaking on curves is out of the question. Pitfall 3: Holiday overcrowding. Before I went, I thought Hechi was "Guangxi's last hidden gem," with karst peaks, skylight jelly-water, and the land of longevity—just thinking about it was healing. After going, I admit that the word "hidden gem" comes with a price. Hechi's beauty is real, but visiting in October–November might be much more "troublesome" than you think. Let me be honest, this post lays out everything you need to know. Brief introduction Hechi is located on the northwest border of Guangxi. Its karst landscape covers 21,800 square kilometers, making it the city with the largest exposed karst area in Guangxi. It has sinkholes, caves, underground rivers, skylight clusters, and canyons. Its landscape diversity is actually richer than Guilin's, just much less famous. Its charm is hidden in its "wild" and "niche" nature, but the price is also "wild" and "remote." Why I "don't recommend" visiting in October–November (real talk) Real talk 1: October has more rainfall, and your itinerary depends on luck According to the autumn 2026 climate forecast, most of Guangxi will see 10%–20% more rainfall in October. Hechi is located in the mountainous area of northwest Guangxi, where showers and moderate rain take turns. Most of Hechi's attractions are scattered along mountain roads, canyons, and riversides.
