It was very convenient to enter by scanning the code directly. 🛺 Honest thoughts on park electric cart rentals Park cart rentals are available from opening at 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM. It's a flat daily rate, not hourly. I personally recommend renting one as early as possible! The later it gets in the afternoon, the fewer carts are available. A three-person electric cart is CNY 299 for the full day. There are very few two-person carts, and they sell out quickly. If you want a two-person cart, you must head to the rental station as soon as the park opens. The park is large, and having an electric cart allows you to stop and go as you please, saving you a lot of walking. 🌊 Water ride tips | Kunlun Adventure (Log Flume) You must bring a thick raincoat and disposable shoe covers for this ride! With a budget of CNY 1,500, a three-day trip starting from Yangqu is very comfortable. As the "North Gate" of Taiyuan, Yangqu is home to national treasure-level ancient architecture like Qinglong Ancient Town and Bu'er Temple, with almost free admission and low local costs. I have planned a three-day itinerary for you focused on "ancient architecture, revolutionary history, and rural wellness." The pace is relaxed, and your budget will mainly go toward food, accommodation, and short-distance transport. 🗓️ 3-Day Itinerary Suggestions Day 1: Ancient Architecture Exploration, Dragon-Shaped Town, and Jin Dynasty Treasures Morning: Depart from Yangqu county town and take Bus 904 directly to Qinglong Ancient Town (free, with some internal museum tickets costing CNY 60). The town's layout hides a "dragon-shaped" secret, with the five-mile-long street forming the dragon's body. Strolling through it, you can feel the former prosperity of the Shanxi merchants who "traveled west." For lunch, try a bowl of Yangqu millet porridge or buckwheat guan chang at the entrance of the town's alley. Afternoon: Return to the county town to visit Bu'er Temple (free). National Day Trip: A Complete Guide to a 4-Day Leisurely Taiyuan Itinerary (Food & Accommodation)
This guide is for a super relaxed self-driving trip from Beijing to Taiyuan, Shanxi. It covers where to eat, play, and stay well, including admission tickets and visit times for each attraction. For Taiyuan food, please refer to my previous or upcoming articles, which are all based on local recommendations. Day 1: Depart from Beijing → Xinzhou Ancient City. The distance is 488 km. With alternating drivers, you can reach Xinzhou Ancient City in 5.5 hours. It will be very crowded during the holiday. The main draw is the snacks. In the evening, there are activities like molten iron flower performances. Parking is free, though spots are hard to find. Parking inside the city walls is a unique experience. You can also climb the city walls to overlook the entire ancient city. There are shuttle buses on the walls at a reasonable price. You can walk along the open sections of the wall. After exploring Xinzhou Ancient City, it will be quite late, so you can stay overnight in Xinzhou. (My itinerary involved driving through the night to Yangqu County, Taiyuan, near a friend's place. You might consider staying near the scenic area; we stayed at a hotel near Fantawild.) Day 2: Jinci + Liuxiang, Zhonglou Street. We slept in until noon the next day. After lunch, we drove to Jinci. Parking is free at Jinci Park, but the Jinci Museum inside requires an admission ticket. I highly recommend visiting the Jinci Museum. Admission: ¥80. The visit to Jinci Park + Jinci Museum takes about 3.5 hours. Shuttle buses are available. Try to go early as it gets crowded, and you will need to queue for must-see spots. Must-sees at Jinci Museum: The Song Dynasty painted clay statues of maids in the Hall of the Holy Mother, the 3,000-year-old Zhou cypress, Nanlao Spring, the Fish Pond Flying Bridge, the Offering Hall, and the main structure of the Hall of the Holy Mother. After leaving Jinci, head straight to Liuxiang (which has many delicious snacks). We arrived in the evening, so be careful of traffic during the evening rush hour. It's a free urban pedestrian commercial district connected to Zhonglou Street and Food Street. It's great for shopping and city leisure, mainly for eating and strolling. It gets extremely crowded on holidays, so you might want to arrive around 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM to avoid the lines. Day 3: Mengshan Giant Buddha + in-depth experience of Liuxiang (those with children can choose to go to Fantawild). In the morning, drive to the Mengshan Giant Buddha. Admission is ¥35–50. The round-trip scenic shuttle bus costs ¥12 (recommended). The visit takes about 2.5 hours, and the hiking trail has a gentle slope. Highlights: The cliff-side Giant Buddha, the ruins of Kaihua Temple, the Lianli Pagoda, and the forest internet cafe. It has mountains and water, making it suitable for all ages. In the afternoon, Liuxiang was almost empty, so there were no lines for good food. I recommend my previous article on Liuxiang food; there are so many delicious options. There are also many fun things to buy on Zhonglou Street. In the evening, we ate with friends in Yangqu County. For a convenient route, I highly recommend Zhenxiafan Hunan-Jiangxi Stir-fry (recommended dishes are in my previous article). Day 4: Mount Wutai. Wake up in the morning and head towards Mount Wutai, which is on the way back to Beijing. We arrived at Mount Wutai at noon. We couldn't book a ticket to drive up the mountain, so we waited at the foot of the mountain for a tour guide to pick us up. We got caught in heavy rain and hail, so we had hot pot at the foot of the mountain (also highly recommended; I will write a guide later). After eating, we drove back to Beijing through the night. Later, we saw the news that Mount Wutai was closed for a week. Normally, according to the plan, you would finish the pilgrimage at Mount Wutai, stay overnight at the foot of the mountain, and return to Beijing on the fifth day. This guide is for a 5-day, 4-night trip to Taiyuan. Since we stayed near a friend's place, and the hotel was quite good, we didn't change hotels during the trip.

Smile JaQinglong Ancient Town
Qinglong Ancient Town is located in Houcun Township, Yangqu County, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, adjacent to National Highway 208. It boasts convenient transportation and is one of Shanxi Province's ten major scenic spots. Originally named "Qinghaozui," it was renamed "Qinglong Town" during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty after villager Wang Shengzhong donated one million taels of silver and was awarded a royal plaque and a blue dragon flag. Its architectural complex, modeled after the layout of Beijing's Summer Palace, forms a dragon-shaped pattern, depicting "culture in the east, military in the west, dragon in the south, and phoenix in the north." The town covers approximately 1,998 mu (approximately 1,998 mu) and is divided into agricultural and cultural areas, military and cultural areas, and commercial and service areas. Numerous Ming and Qing dynasty-style buildings are preserved within the town, including ancient residences such as Yonghe Hall and Jingguan Hall, as well as temples such as the Wenchang Temple and the Dragon King Temple. The town boasts exquisite wood and brick carvings. Historically, it was a key route for Shanxi merchants to travel westward. The Wang family produced over 130 officials of the fifth rank and above, contributing to its prosperous commercial trade. It is now open to the public free of charge, open from 8:30 to 17:30 every day, where visitors can experience ancient buildings, gardens and folk culture.
M39***74Taiyuan Northern Qi Dynasty Mural Museum
I thought it was just a museum, but it turns out to be a museum built on a tomb site. The name is a bit illogical and misleading, almost making me give up on the trip. It's definitely worth a visit, but since it's on the original site, it would be more visually appealing if the murals were still displayed in the tomb passage. It's a bit of a shame that the tomb passage can only be viewed from a distance. The introductory video wasn't well-produced; the explanations weren't clearly marked, making it difficult to find the key points, and I was completely confused, so I had to give up. There weren't many artifacts.

Endless shopping spree. You'll need at leas half a day to get through the whole street, that is if you actually wish to shop at least. Didn't get to take much photos. Was too busy window shopping

The guide was very enthusiastic and taught us a lot about coal. We even got to experience a mine firsthand, which made us appreciate the hardships of coal miners and their great dedication. The young guide also took many photos for us. Thank you for your patient explanation.

Liuxiang, named during the Ming Dynasty, is the most central area of the ancient Jinyang Old Street! There are many century-old shops here: Liuweizhai, Qingheyuan, Renyili, Linxiangzhai, Huataihou, Kaihua Temple, Dazhong Temple, Daning Hall, Hengdeli... There are many old shops here, it is a must-visit place when you come to Taiyuan!
