The Osaka Prefectural Sayama Pond Museum is the work of the Japanese architect Tadao Ando in 2001. Ando's architectural works have a cold appearance and simple materials, and are known as "experiential architecture". The purpose of the establishment of the museum is mainly to preserve the unearthed cultural relics of Sayama Pond, the very oldest reservoir-type cistern in Japan with a history of 1400 years, the reconstruction method of Sayama Pond and the dam. The museum is divided into seven exhibition areas according to the era for preservation and display, and the museum also introduces the history of civil engineering and water control in Japan.
